Anthos|Home is a groundbreaking startup focused on housing vulnerable New Yorkers. We're seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Finance and Administration to oversee financial operations, budgeting, and administrative functions. This role is critical in ensuring efficient operations and supporting the program and fundraising functions of the organization.
THE ROLE
The Director of Finance and Administration will oversee finance, budgeting, and administration for the organization – with a current annual budget of $12 million. This role involves working closely with external partners, government agencies, and internal teams to ensure financial integrity and administrative efficiency. The person will report to the Chief Operating Officer and supervise at least one staff member. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record in nonprofit finance, a passion for Anthos|Home's mission, and the ability to streamline processes for optimal performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance:
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including cash-flow management, grants spending, accounts payable, accounts receivable and bill payments.
- Serve as the primary contact and collaborator with our outside financial firm (who provides our back-office accounting services) to ensure information is provided in a timely basis.
- Provide financial reporting, analysis and forecasting to support the organization's sustainability.
- Monitor financial performance and recommend strategies to address challenges and opportunities.
- Develop program budgets in collaboration with key program staff and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
- Serve as the lead in the organization's annual audit, working closely with our auditors (and our outside financial firm) and liaising with the Board's audit committee.
- Develop and implement fiscal policies and accounting practices.
- Oversee the processing of organization purchases, ensuring that all requests and expenditures are reviewed and processed promptly and in adherence with the fiscal policy.
- Collaborate with the operations team to manage financial transactions and payments to third parties.
- Review reconciliation of payroll for all employees.
Financial Compliance
- Ensure timely submission of all government contract invoices.
- Work with development and program staff to ensure that fiscal requirements for contracts and grants are identified, adhered to and monitored.
- Oversee the submission of grants budgets and spend-down, including appropriate allocation of personnel salaries.
- Work with our outside financial firm to prepare financial reports as needed.
- Respond to lenders and government partners requests for financial information.
Administration:
- Support oversight of employee benefits, 401(k) plans, payroll, and insurance systems.
- Manage the organization's insurance needs, working with brokers to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Oversee office operations, including liaising with landlords and building staff.
- Collaborate with external support firms and internal teams to streamline administrative processes.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and assist with special projects as needed.
- Uphold a commitment to service excellence for staff, participants, and funders.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree required; Accounting degree preferred; minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, budgeting, or grants management.
- Experience managing organizational budgets of $5 million or more, which include government and foundation funding sources.
- Proficiency in Excel, Great Plains (or similar accounting software), and advanced MS Word and PowerPoint skills. Experience with Salesforce is a plus.
- Fluent in GAAP
- Experience with NYC Passport, NYS SFS and working with NYC and NY State government contracts.
- Excellent time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to take initiative, set priorities and exhibit flexibility in a fast-paced, often changing environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Competitive starting salary: $100,000 - $125,000 (commensurate with experience).
