The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing the planning, operation, and maintenance of the organization's physical infrastructure and facilities. This role involves managing a wide range of activities, including building maintenance, space planning, vendor management, safety compliance, and sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with strong operational expertise, a focus on cost efficiency, and a commitment to creating a safe, functional, and appealing environment for employees, clients, and visitors. In addition to overseeing facilities operations, this position will include leadership and oversight of the Environmental Department.
As Director of Facilities you will ensure all of the following facilities duties are met:
- Responsible for all aspects of the Life Safety program including testing, preventative maintenance, and documentation as well as immediate identification, communication, and repair of any Life Safety deficiencies.
- Oversee all inspections, tests, and reports on the performance of building systems to include, but not limited to, automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire/smoke detection, emergency power, and all other utilities.
- Conducts daily Environment of Care rounds providing documentation of audits performed as requested.
- Helps select, contract with, and oversee several operations and clinical support vendors including plant operations, landscaping and snow removal, security, laboratory, and others as assigned.
- Coordinates equipment maintenance with service partners.
- Maintains facility equipment to ensure maximum uptime and service life.
- Manages work requests and schedules Preventative Maintenance via a computer management system.
- Maintains system and generate reports on a regular basis to support customer service levels and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees contracted service activity for security, pest control, RODI, HVAC, BMS, CDA.
- Ensures site vendors perform duties as prescribed by scope/contract.
- Responds to after hour emergencies.
- Maintains layouts and updates to building plans.
- Knowledge and experience in facilities management, building systems, and project management within a hospital environment.
- Strong knowledge of and experience in the principles of fire safety, security, general safety, equipment management and disaster preparedness.
- Must be detail oriented and have the strong ability to multi-task.
- Must be able to successfully prioritize and manage a stressful, fast-paced environment.
- Strong ability to exercise good supervisory judgment with assigned staff and demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national building codes, NFPA Standards, The Joint Commission Standards, OSHA, EPA, DMH, etc.
Successful Director of Facilities will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in facilities management, environmental science, engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience in environmental services and facilities management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Experience with facility accreditation compliance such as Joint Commission, NFPA, CDC and FDA, DMH required
- Familiar with Standard Operating Procedures, document control, deviations, corrective and preventative actions
- Experience in project management and coordinating mutli-disciplinary teams
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
