About the Job
The Director of Engineering for Reading Truck Equipment will primarily be responsible for providing leadership in the planning and organizing of the sustaining, special product and new product development engineering functions, to ensure the delivery of solutions that meet the timing, cost and performance objectives as required to support the business growth and performance goals.
The Nuts and Bolts
- Implement and execute the strategic vision by setting goals and objectives for day-to-day engineering activities
- Evaluate and support implementation of new equipment, assembly and manufacturing technologies
- Ensure that Engineering works effectively with all functions in the organization to meet customer requirements for cost, quality, performance and on-time delivery
- Keep abreast of competitive brands and customer needs to keep products competitive in our markets
- Drive product and component standardization efforts to maximize efficiency of manpower and material utilization, and focus on manufacturability and ease of assembly and simplified installation
- Support continuous improvement initiatives as required
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and various company departments to prevent and/or resolve quality and design issues
- Lead product compliance and ensure standard and custom product meet OE and Federal requirements and guidelines
- Directly supervise, lead and develop engineering management and staff
- Determine staffing requirements, interview, hire, train, and develop new employees
- Ensure engineering staff provides customer support before, during, and after the sale
- Provide leadership and accountability for achieving Engineering objectives in cost, quality, delivery, performance, and safety
Required Credentials
- Minimum seven (7) years' experience in an Engineering role
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in an Engineering Management role
- Truck body and equipment design verification and validation in a manufacturing environment
- Truck equipment system to chassis integration
- Experience with FMVSS/CMVSS, CFR, IVD requirements and guidelines
- Associate Degree OR Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering
- Solid knowledge / experience with SolidWorks, PDM and Business Process Management and Continuous Improvement
- Communication skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work within a team environment
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities and accelerated delivery schedules
- The ability to collaborate with all business functions and engage with customers
- Ability to travel up to 25%
