What are we looking for?
This Director of Engineering - Global Energy position is responsible for providing engineering expertise in all standards covered in the technical areas assigned and for communicating with management, legal counsel, clients, accreditors, AHJs and others as needed to accomplish all duties. Engage global business leaders to align business strategies within technical accuracy.
Salary & Benefits Information
The base wage or salary range for this position is $175K - $225K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. What you'll do:
Expand Technical area across all areas as needed by the business line.
- Assist Global Business in developing the technical scope and capabilities consistent with the market needs.
- Assist Locations in development of scope expansion.
- Assist in developing new test centres for Energy services
- Identify new service offering and support Capital expenditures in the Energy space
- Identify client engineering and business information needs that can be addressed through new or existing assurance, testing, inspection, or certification services.
Customer Engagement
- Work closely with the sales and Engineering teams with customers to create a road map to Certification for emerging products
- Be the lead for Technical/Standard interpretations that get escalated from the engineering team
- Help provide guidance to sales and engineering team on difficult quotes
Leverage existing service offering:
- Collaborate with global stakeholders in implementing the technical scope for service offerings and business strategies.
- Provide training to sales to use existing services more effectively.
- Support all labs conducting testing for faster TAT and high-quality reports.
Global Training and Development:
- Global training for testing
- Network Intertek labs around the world and align processes.
- Invest in technical staff to enable growth on a Global Scale
- Reduce the investigations globally.
- Give the appropriate trainings so each region can improve TAT.
- Develop and consolidate test methods and plans for use globally and for clients.
Continued Development of specific labs as needed by the business line:
- Assist with training of new Engineering and Sales personnel.
- Train and develop Engineers to Level II status or higher to assist local staff in being self-sustaining.

- Decisions on, and Interpretations of, Test Results - As needed, assist the Reviewer and Lead Engineer in making the final decision when test data does not appear to meet acceptance criteria.
- Legal - As requested, work with Intertek counsel on subpoenas, litigation and court depositions.
- Standards Development/Intelligence Gathering - Participate in standards development activities that will allow Intertek to identify business development opportunities, as well as maintain contact with key technical personnel at major companies. Coordinate such duties with other technical staff.
- Engineering Advisory Board (EAB) - Participate as needed/directed with other Chiefs.
- Special Programs/Projects - Participate in, or direct, special programs or projects with key clients (including visits to manufacturer's sites) to develop Intertek's position and stature in the industry, or with that client.
- Technical Dispute Resolution: Provide technical assistance to Operations for resolution of disputes regarding test results, performance of tests, or interpretation of standards.
- Intertek Performance Verification Programs - Provide technical direction and assistance with qualification of Intertek sites to conduct testing and other operations associated with programs within discipline.
- Third Party Certification Programs - Provide technical assistance in the development of Third-Party Certification programs.
- CB Scheme - Support site qualification and re-assessments to CB requirements.
- Trade Shows - As requested, attend, or delegate attendance, to support Intertek and the industry.
- Marketing - As requested, provide technical material to demonstrate Intertek's expertise in relevant technologies and markets. As requested, review collateral material for technical correctness.

MinimumRequirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in technical field and 10+ years directly related experience.
- Ability to travel 35% of the time as business dictates.
- A valid driver's license and reliable driving record.
- Ability to apply principals of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to work with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc., and ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to make difficult technical decisions and engineering judgements independently where limited standardization exists.
- Ability to apply these technical skills and make these decisions while remaining flexible, cooperative and cognizant of the needs of Intertek in any given situation.
- Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
- Committee Participation and/or formal recognition in the related technical areas.
- Master's degree in technical field, or PE License, and 5+ years directly related experience
