About the Job
The Director of Engineering provides organizational leadership and maintains full accountability for all engineering outcomes within the assigned East region. This is a senior level management position with complete oversight of a highly technical engineering team comprised of project managers, field engineers, and vendor-partners responsible for managing a high volume of telecommunications projects for a variety of customers across different OSP and ISP product lines throughout the United States.
The Director of Engineering is a customer-facing position that will manage client relationships, drive continuous improvement and deliver planned project outcomes. The person in this role will also be directly involved with providing quotes and RFP responses to customers. The ideal candidate will have extensive working knowledge of the design and deployment of fiber optic networks, be highly skilled with cost and resource forecasting, and have expert level experience with best project management practices.

Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to a team of project managers, project coordinators, and telecommunications engineers, while also providing guidance to and oversight of our vendor-partners.
- Ensures all team members understand and execute company strategy and operating objectives.
- Completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements and resources.
- Meets all internal and external targets in terms of quality, schedule and budget.
- Provides ongoing employee development and engagement through the implementation of employee performance reviews, developmental opportunities, and continuous feedback.
- Provides technical leadership to ensure that engineering services meet or exceed all industry and customer standards.
- Supports Business Development and Sales with proposal and estimate preparation, review and costing analysis, and resource forecasting.
- Manages project workload, meeting all deadlines and deliverables within approved budgets and schedules.
- Provides technical direction to project teams and customer clients on complex multi-disciplined projects.
- Interacts with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the business.
- Performs administrative tracking of all assigned projects in assigned region to include status, critical path due dates, predicted completion dates, risks, billing/revenue forecasts.
- Contributes technical and procedural expertise and applies best practices to resolve engineering issues.
- Acts as the technical and operational subject matter expert for the design, engineering, and permitting of fiber optic projects.
- Is responsible for the management, training, and development of staff.
- Develops and maintains design standards, work practices, and systems level knowledge to support customer base.
- Maintains and stays current with industry knowledge and provides coaching on the latest technical designs, industry codes, standards, and best engineering practices.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management, Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field; MS or MBA is a plus.
- Minimum 15 years in the telecommunications or engineering industries or a combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 10 years in telecommunications outside plant, with in-depth knowledge of FTTH, pole make-ready, permitting, and BAU work.
- Minimum 10 years managing telecommunication or engineering staff.
- Deep and broad knowledge of the telecommunication industry, ideally in design and/or construction of network infrastructure.
- Proven ability to meet multiple project deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
- Familiar with applicable codes and standards including Municipal, State and Federal.
- Ability to lead highly effective and engaged teams who are motivated to provide exceptional results daily.
- Advanced interpersonal, listening and communication skills with a track record of influencing at all levels.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and effective decision-making skills; self-motivated.
- Willingness to travel out-of-state for short periods of time and work extended hours as required.
- A positive, client-focused approach while carrying out their job responsibilities.
