Job Details
The Director of Engineering will lead and manage the engineering department for a leading aerospace fastener manufacturing company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, including engineers, project managers, and support staff.
- Define clear goals and performance metrics for the engineering team.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative engineering culture within the department.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives and market demands.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, methodologies, and technologies.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and schedule targets.
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of new aerospace fastener products.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the integration of new technologies and innovations into product development processes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain, and other departments to ensure smooth product development and production.
- Serve as the engineering point of contact for customer inquiries, technical support, and issue resolution.
- Ensure engineering practices adhere to aerospace industry standards, including AS9100 and other relevant certifications.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to maintain high product standards.
- Address and resolve engineering-related issues and non-conformities.
- Develop and manage the engineering department’s budget, including staffing, equipment, and project expenditures.
- Allocate resources efficiently and effectively to meet project and departmental goals.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in aerospace fastener manufacturing.
- Promote and drive innovation within the engineering team to enhance product performance and manufacturing capabilities.
- Prepare and present regular reports on engineering activities, project status, and key performance indicators to senior management.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.
- Report immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
- Assist in maintaining clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of aerospace fastener technologies, design, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., AS9100).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a track record of successful project management.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to drive innovation and manage change in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to write and read English.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or related field). A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of proven experience in an engineering leadership role within the aerospace or manufacturing industry.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and results of the department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
