Position Summary
Provides leadership for Endoscopy Center operations at all locations (Wausau & Stevens Point), according to policies and goals established by the Board of Directors and applicable federal, state, AAAHC and Medicare regulations. Responsible for all clinical, performance improvement, employment management, customer service, regulatory compliance, and safety responsibilities in the Endoscopy Center. Assures quality patient care, efficient and compliant operations, and excellent customer service. Serves as a liaison with physicians and staff in key areas including performance improvement, employment management, risk management, and medical staff leadership.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
As a member of the Director Team, contributes to operational, strategic business planning, and corporate integrity through participation in leadership and various committees, and Board meetings as needed.
- CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, reviews, and updates patient care protocols and nursing policies on a routine basis.
- Assures appropriate patients are admitted following established patient selection criteria, and assures that appropriate procedures are performed based on approved procedure list.
- Monitors all phases of patient care activities and ensures that staff follow established protocols for optimal patient care.
- Assures medical records are reviewed concurrently and post-discharge for accuracy and completeness. Corrective action occurs as indicated.
- Participates in direct patient care activities as needed. Adheres to Registered Nurse position description requirements when providing direct patient care.
- PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:
- Oversees all patient care incidents and complications.
- Acts as the Quality Improvement Coordinator, assuming responsibility for administering the Quality Improvement program, to ensure success of quality measures in the Endoscopy Center.
- Assumes responsibility for Endoscopy Center Committees and works with the Infection Control Coordinator, Quality Improvement Coordinator, and Safety Officer to maintain and develop program quality and efficiency.
- Serves as a resource and mentor to committee coordinators.
- Actively participates in the Risk Management Committee and its goals.
- Evaluates peer review process for physicians and CRNAs.
- Oversees quality measure data.
- EMPLOYMENT MANAGEMENT:
- Works with Human Resources to develop position descriptions, interview candidates and confirm all candidate qualifications are appropriate.
- Monitors the staff orientation and competency program.
- Manages the anesthesia schedule and ensures appropriate coverage.
- Demonstrates or arranges for demonstration of accurate procedural techniques for new and existing equipment.
- Facilitates ongoing in-service education and oversees completion of in-service- documentation.
- Supports nurse managers in completing clinical staff performance appraisals. Effectively communicates job performance expectations and provides appropriate feedback.
- Initiates appropriate disciplinary action when required.
- Supports Nurse Managers in all centers in managing all clinical care processes and staffing model, assuring adequate staffing and scheduling.
- Supports Endo Center Leadership Team and their leadership learning to foster a working environment where teamwork is the focus.
- Works closely with Scheduling Coordinator to complete monthly CRNA/MAC schedules. Updates scheduling software to reflect any changes/updates to monthly calendars.
- CUSTOMER SERVICE:
- Serves as a role model to peers and co-workers in the delivery of patient care, personal conduct, and personal appearance.
- Responsible for complete follow-up of all patient complaints and grievances.
- Reviews and addresses all Patient Satisfaction Surveys that are received, noting a patient concern or complaint and reports to the QI Committee.
- Investigates all patient complaints and grievances per policy and communicates with affected parties per written policy.
- REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:
- Maintains current knowledge of all applicable rules and regulations.
- Reviews impending regulatory changes; develops recommendations accordingly.
- Guides AAAHC reaccreditation process in all ASCs to achieve and maintain AAAHC and Medicare certification.
- Responsible for guiding all reporting required by CMS, including QualityNet, ASCQR, MIPS, and NHSN.
- SAFETY:
- Maintains Endoscopy Center in safe condition following and enforcing all safety protocols and adhering to all patient and facility safety regulations and guidelines. Identifies, corrects or reports unsafe conditions as they arise.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited school required; Master's degree preferred.
- Licensure/Certification
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Wisconsin required.
- BLS required, ACLS preferred.
- Experience
- Minimum 5 years progressive nursing management experience required.
- Experience in ASC setting highly preferred.
- Experience in the practice of gastrointestinal nursing preferred.
