POSITION SUMMARY:
As an Engineering Director, your team will be responsible for conducting a variety of engineering calculations essential for project work. This includes tasks like analyzing pole structures, guying systems, cable tension, electrical load requirements, fault current analysis, and ensuring the coordination of protective devices. In addition to this, you will oversee assignments related to requesting forestry trimming, managing permits and Right-of-Way acquisitions, creating Bills of Materials (BOM), cost estimation, and engaging in customer advocacy efforts like obtaining easements or determining customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) fees.
JOB FUNCTION:
- Day-to-day oversight of schedule, budget, and scope of work to be performed
- Development and oversight of performance metrics
- Adherence to financial metrics
- Development of a team to execute work, including supporting the hiring of senior and strategic staff
- Strategize and implement organizational structures to enable future growth
- 10%-30% Working with team to improve process, training & mentoring staff.
- 20% Engineering, development, and quality control of design packages for construction crews.
- 50%-70% Performing supervisory, business development, planning, managing profit/loss, and/or customer relationships.
- Support business development, proposal creation, and growth opportunities
- Client engagement
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (EE preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Ten (10)+ years of prior relevant distribution engineering experience either directly with an electric utility or at an electric utility consulting company
- Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Proficient knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and comprehension of client construction standards
- Experience with Business Development, developing proposals, and pricing
- Successful project management experience (initiate, plan, execute, monitor & control, closeout).
- Demonstrated Experience managing engineering teams.
- Ability to demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and provide leadership to other team members; Ability to work effectively in teams made up of individuals of diverse backgrounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- PMP certification
- Experience with designing secondary networks
- Experience with the development of civil & electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments.
- Experience with complex projects in distribution design: medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, and distribution automation projects.
