The School of Social Ecology has marshaled its interdisciplinary expertise to focus on areas including global environmental degradation, poverty and other forms of inequality, prison overcrowding and gang violence in California, healthy child development, challenges faced by an aging population, health risks and community empowerment. These efforts have made the School of Social Ecology a national leader in applying basic theory and empirical research to a range of complex societal problems. As the first and only School of Social Ecology in the nation, our researchers bring real change, in real time, to real people's lives. The School of Social Ecology has tremendous potential to sustain $5 million in annual donor support as displayed this FY where we have successfully raised over $5.2 million, a significant increase to the average funds raised of $3.8 million.
The Director of Development (DOD) for the School of Social Ecology is a mid-level development professional who works collaboratively with the Chief Development Officer for the School of Social Ecology and University Advancement (UA) to contribute to the development program of the School of Social Ecology and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. The primary activity of the DOD is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support and the DoD's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The DOD reports directly to the Chief Development Officer, School of Social Ecology. The DOD is expected to serve as a member of the School's Advancement team, and to also be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the campus
- Experience-based knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising for a comprehensive research university Required
- Strong collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone Required
- Experienced in operating under a prospect moves-management system that utilizes a central database Required
- Self-starter able to secure personal appointments and qualify a significant volume of new prospects Required
- Collaborative in nature knowing that many donors’ interests involve multiple parts of the university Required
- Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that leverage a relationship-building and moves-management approach leading to successful gift closure Required
- Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments Required
- Ability to work independently with both school and institutional goals in mind Required
- Ability to represent the institution professionally, externally and internally Required
- Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials Required
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties Required
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects Required
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Elucian (Advance) or a comparable donor/prospect database system Required
- Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible Required
- Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies Required

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$110,000- $$160,000 (Annual).
Required:
- 5-10 years • Five years' successful professional development and/or fundraising-related experience, preferably in higher education, OR, any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.
