Salary range: $115,000 - $130,000 annually

Position Description:
The Director of Development will partner closely with Compass' Chief Development Officer and will play a critical role in leading our fundraising efforts by overseeing the implementation of all fundraising campaigns and events, as well as managing four full time staff positions plus contractors. Your strategic vision and expertise in fundraising will help us achieve our mission and drive meaningful impact for the homeless and at-risk families we serve. This is an ideal role for a well-rounded development professional who enjoys focusing on the operational side of development activities.
This is a new role. Compass has experienced exceptional growth over recent years with the budget almost doubling in two years. We are growing our Development team and improving our fundraising efforts in order to ensure that we can sustain and build upon this recent growth.
Compass secures between $5 and $8 Million annually from individuals and non-government institutions and an additional $700K+ in in-kind contributions. The Director of Development will oversee all non-grant revenue including gifts from individuals and corporations, events, in-kind campaigns (drives, Adopt-a-Family, etc.), and volunteer management. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced development professional interested in tackling family homelessness through meaningful work with an outstanding, committed team.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manage four full-time staff members: Corporate Relations Manager, In-Kind Donations Manager, Events Manager, and Development and Volunteer Manager. Additionally, manage a contractor who oversees our holiday Adopt-a-Family project
- Creatively lead the team in the implementation of all fundraising campaigns and events, driving innovation and excellence
- Manage and build upon the Annual Fund campaign - our end of calendar year campaign which generates over $1Million in revenue from individuals each year and includes the Giving Tuesday sub-campaign
- Manage a donor stewardship strategy that ensures that we are honoring our relationships with our donors
- Work with the team to build on workplace giving/matching gifts and recurring donor strategies
- Manage our vendor contracts with our online gift processing platform (iDonate), CRM (Salesforce) and others to ensure that we are effectively utilizing systems to execute our work at a high level
- Oversee the management of donor and gift data and the coordination of revenue information between Development and the Finance team
- Work closely with the Communications Manager on the execution of all external communications for fundraising campaigns and activities
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas for improvement and implement innovative strategies to enhance fundraising efforts
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising with increasing responsibilities over time.
- Minimum of 2 years in a management role.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing fundraising strategies that achieve measurable results.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and inspire trust among donors and team members.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead and motivate staff effectively.
- Meticulous attention to detail and an aesthetic eye in reviewing fundraising materials
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Proficiency in using fundraising software and CRM systems to track donor interactions and fundraising progress.
- Adept at utilizing data-driven insights for decision-making.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $115,000 - $130,000 annually.
- Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave, time off for education.
- Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
- Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-5.
- This is an exempt (salaried) position.
Location and Covid safety:
- Office location: 37 Grove St., less than a block from Civic Center BART/MUNI station
- This is primarily an on-site role, with the option to work remotely one day per week after the first three months
- Covid vaccination required for all staff.
