Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.We are currently looking for a talented and resourceful individual to be our part time Outreach Education Associate.
The Associate will implement and evaluate innovative educational activities, programs, and family activities for young children (ages birth through 10 years old). The Associate will create and implement educational programs for Pre-K and Elementary children, including Afterschool Program, SuperKids Summer Camp, and Museum on the Road. Assists in the maintenance of all outreach materials.
This position offers 24 hours per week. The work week for this position is mid-week, consisting of 5 to 6 hour shifts. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/ museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends and holidays will be necessary.
Incumbent for this position must be willing and able to travel to and between the museum and outreach locations, with bins and outreach supplies. Incumbent must also have a valid driver's license and reliable non-public transportation.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provides assistance in the programmatic oversight of Afterschool and Museum on the Road.
- Represents the first line of assistance, direction and interaction with all enrichment partners (i.e.: Afterschool/ Museum on the Road).
- Performs direct service duties for Museum on the Road and Afterschool programs, as assigned.
- Performs direct service duties (in the museum) for Special Events and other programs, as assigned.
- Responsible for thorough understanding and knowledge of all enrichment curriculum/operations, exhibits and programs.
- Prepare program materials.
Education and/ or Experience:
- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor's Degree in progress or completed is preferred (in Education, Public Health, Arts, Science, or a related field).
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years' experience working with children and families in a public setting is required.
- Experience in elementary education and community outreach.
- An interest in working closely with children, educator and museum staff.
- Must have excellent organizational, business writing and interpersonal skills.
- Museum experience preferred.
- A valid Driver's License and reliable non-public transportation is required for this position (for outreach activities).
