Director of Construction and Residences
The Director of Construction and Residences will be responsible for the overall construction, maintenance and operations of the families residences. The role will report to the Head of the Family Office but will include significant interaction with the principals and family members.
The candidate will work closely with project managers, contractors, architects, engineers and various vendors and consultants. A strong candidate will possess and demonstrate the ability to communicate efficiently with household staff and external construction teams. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of the construction process from conception through implementation, and will maintain close supervision of progress and budget throughout the project duration.
The Director of Construction and Residences will have a roll up your sleeves attitude, lead by example and maintain proper discretion and confidentiality. It is expected that this individual has impeccable integrity, treats colleagues with respect and exercises good judgment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day oversight to ensure the homes are cared for, maintained and protected from damage.
- Set and maintain high quality standards and aesthetics throughout the home.
- Proactively identify needed repairs and maintenance, supervise maintenance and repair work to ensure work is performed in a high-quality manner and problem solve any issues that arise.
- Identify and schedule vendor work to be completed ensuring minimal disruption to the family.
- Develop, compile, and periodically update documentation for all household procedures, processes and policies.
- Provide timely responses outside of regular business hours.
- Manage an array of real estate renovation and new construction projects in multiple locations:
- Track key deliverables and outstanding items to make sure projects are completed on schedule and to the familys expectations.
- Review extensive billing packages and proposals to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure that contracts with consultants, engineers, specialists, etc. are kept current.
- Schedule meetings, attend meetings and take notes summarizing key points and deliverables.
- Understand and analyze architectural, structural, MEP and interior plans and specifications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in a related field
- 15+ years of experience in real estate, residence management, construction or similar (family office experience a plus).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (writing and speaking).
- Strong technology skills (Microsoft Excel, Office Suite).
- Proficiency working with estate and/or inventory management software.
- Finds deep satisfaction from being in service of a principal and anticipating their needs before they do.
- Adept at juggling competing deadlines with ease while remaining calm and attentive to detail.
- Highly organized, driven by details, a creative and resourceful problem solver with strong execution skills.
- Efficiently collaborates with various personalities builds strong, trusting relationships and sees the value of clearly disseminating information to support the family and team.
