Job Summary:
The Director of Construction is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the residential construction projects from inception to completion. This leadership role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to Well Done's highest quality standards. The Director of Construction will manage a team of construction project managers and field staff while maintaining effective communication between stakeholders, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Oversight:
- Lead and supervise multiple residential construction projects, ensuring they meet deadlines, budgets, and safety regulations.
- Review project plans, schedules, and specifications, ensuring adherence to the design intent and quality standards.
- Monitor construction processes and provide solutions to overcome challenges and obstacles.
- Team Management:
- Hire, train, and manage a team of construction professionals, including project managers and field staff.
- Foster a positive and productive team culture, providing leadership and guidance to ensure high performance and accountability.
- Coordinate team efforts, delegate tasks, and ensure all team members understand their responsibilities.
- Budget and Financial Management:
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting, tracking, and reporting.
- Approve expenditures and monitor cost control measures to avoid budget overruns.
- Collaborate with the finance department to ensure financial objectives are met.
- Quality Control:
- Establish and enforce construction standards, ensuring that all projects meet or exceed quality expectations and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality, addressing any deviations or issues promptly.
- Ensure all permits and inspections are completed on time, in compliance with local building codes and regulations.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, keeping them informed about project progress, timelines, and any changes.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on the status of ongoing projects.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all construction sites comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations and best practices.
- Promote a culture of safety by conducting regular safety audits and ensuring all staff is trained in safety procedures.
- Address and resolve any safety concerns or incidents on construction sites.
- Strategic Planning & Growth:
- Contribute to the company's long-term growth strategy, identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and materials to incorporate into future projects.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and bids for new residential projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in residential construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing multiple, large-scale residential construction projects from start to finish.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of residential construction processes, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Expertise in project management software (Buildertrend) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to read blueprints
- Certifications (Preferred but not required):
- Licensed General Contractor
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position; may require extended hours depending on project timelines.
- Will require travel to job sites, including local, regional, and possibly national locations.
