QUALIFICATIONS: A valid state certificate required for adminstration, Special Educaton Degree preferred. At least three years of successful teaching and/or supervisory experience in public schools.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services. Will consult and collaborate with prinicipal of WFLC regarding building specific needs.
JOB GOAL: Provide administrative oversight for the Brookwood Academy Program which isapart of McCarthy Tezler and is located at Whitlock Flexible Learning Center. Develop and implement policies, programs and curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member. Coordinate services for exceptional students with all of the school districts in Spartanburg County.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide administrative oversight for Brookwood Academy staff (BWA).
- Conceptualize the goals of the Brookwood Program and plan accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to support the total program.
- Coordinate special services at Brookwood to ensure compliance with the legal, financial and organizational requirements of the school.
- Identify and provide professional learning opportunities to facilitate growth of the special services staff and enhance the quality of the instructional programs.
- Assist in maintaining discipline of students and keeps records of disciplinary actions.
- Assist with transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services for special education students at Brookwood.
- Assist with monitoring of student attendance, and cooperate with districts and/or county attendance supervisors for investigative follow-up actions.
- Manage, direct and maintain records on the materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to carry out the daily school routine and educational objectives.
- Serve as Testing Coordinator for special services.
- Facilitate school registration, orientation and intake processes for special education students.
- Assist in safety inspections and safety drill activities.
- Schedule staff and assist with bus and lunch duty for Brookwood students.
- Assist in requisition of textbooks, inventory, records, and checks on receipts for such materials.
- Completeevaluation of teacher performance of Brookwood staff through mentoring, evaluation and GBE oversight.
- Chair student transition teams and schedule meetings with county staff.
- Confer with members of the professional staff and/or parents concerning student problems that hinder satisfactory behavioral or academic adjustment.
- Prepare school bulletins, teacher and student handbooks and other materials related to the Brookwood.
- Assist with maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds occupied by Brookwood Academy.
- Perform other duties and accept such responsibilities as designated.
- Coordinate with Brookwood Staff to provide a therapeutic environment for the students of BWA.
CONTRACT LENGTH: 225 Days
TERMS: Salary according to current teacher salary schedule and credential held. Salary schedule and work year to be established by the Board.
