Develop annualgoals and objectives related to supporting the growth and development ofbioengineering in response to present and future needs.Provide bioengineering resources to manage medical equipment planning forconstruction projects involving biomedical equipment at all sites requested.• Provide bioengineering resources to conduct pre-purchase evaluations, researchvendors, assess cost of ownership, and other activities in support of biomedicalequipment acquisitions.• Integrate management of biomedical equipment maintenance at all sites.• Provide bioengineering resources to offer initial inspections and acceptancetesting for acquisition of biomedical equipment.• Provide bioengineering resources to participate in the medical device hazardand recall notification program.• Provide bioengineering resources to comply with the Joint Commission medicalequipment management standards.• Evaluate current service offerings and partner with institutional customers todevelop new bioengineering services where appropriate• Develop and meet goals with respect to biomedical technology in support ofstrategic plan.Review and rank all strategic capital requests for biomedical equipment; assessand prioritize all strategic capital requests.• Provide bioengineering resources to review the maintenance capital submittalsfor biomedical equipment at all sites as requested.• Act as a functional expert for the translation of business practice intobioengineering solutions. Provide expert technical support on bioengineeringtechnologies used by the UI Health Care enterprise.• Serve as the liaison for technical staff, users, vendors and otherstakeholders.• Establish new and modify existing procedures and processes to make effectiveuse of available technologies to increase efficiency and improve customersatisfaction.• Manage equipment performance and service to vendors to maintain the higheststandards of patient care. When products or services are found to beunsatisfactory, the Director is responsible for expediting solutions, includingreplacing equipment or terminating service agreements.• Communicate with senior leadership and project sponsors regarding the statusof specific projects.• Prepare special and periodic reports to senior leadership.• Facilitate customer interactions and grow relationships with key clinicalcustomers through participation on system committees.• Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support functionsof the Bioengineering Department.• Develop budget and create systems for effective implementation and monitoring.• Optimize annual capital purchasing power by identifying opportunities toconsolidate purchases across sites and fiscal years.• Supervise and participate in in-service training of new technicians andclinical staff concerning use and operation of patient care equipment.• Negotiate system-wide service agreements with vendors where appropriate.Experience Requirements• Expert level experience (typically 5 years) in medical or technical equipmentoperations and maintenance management.• Extensive experience (typically 3 years) in the management of staff andservices of a bioengineering program in a large hospital or complex academicmedical center environment.• Advanced electronic training including electronic theory and technology andfamiliarity with applicable regulatory and inspection agency requirements• Expert level knowledge of industry trends and current patient care equipment.Demonstrated experience applying new technology solutions to business andhealthcare problems.• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicatetechnical principles and ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.• Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in thework/academic environment.Desired Qualifications• Master of Science degree in engineering or biomedical engineering with aclinical engineering concentration is highly desirable.
