About the Job
The University of Miami Health System is initiating a search for an Associate Professor of Clinical Audiology and Director of Audiology Clinical Education.
The Associate Professor and Director of Audiology Clinical Education (ACE) directs and maintains training and onboarding programs within the Division of Audiology in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Miami. The Director reports to the Chief of the Division. Primary responsibilities are to direct, plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor goals and activities on behalf of the ACE program, and in coordination with the chief and clinical teaching faculty, while ensuring the highest quality in education standards. The Director leads all projects and duties as directed by the chief, related to the ACE. Mentorship and guidance on tasks is not needed; the Director can be fully trusted to complete tasks without oversight. Clinically, The Associate Professor and Director of ACE clinically administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment. Primary specialties are Diagnostics and Hearing Aids.
DIRECTORSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Implementation of Visiting Professor training
- Facilitates programmatic development
- Marketing of program
- Ensures regulatory and institutional policies and procedures are upheld
- Maintains clinical education manual, accurate and up-to-date records on training
- Maintains up to date knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of Audiology
- Executes training curriculum set by the Chief
- Formalized meaningful Competencies/Metrics that can be measured over time, from one extern to the next
- Actively engages faculty in clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment. Identifies when performance improvement is needed for both trainees and preceptors.
- Reviews policies and procedures of the ACE with institutions
- Works with chief to facilitate the application process
- Works with the department residency program director to maintain application records and institutional records
- Maintains records and oversight of preceptor training and CEU records
- Provides regular training and feedback to preceptors
- Fosters a safe learning environment that upholds the training standards of the Department of Otolaryngology and the University of Miami.
- Manages/oversees 3-month onboarding process for new audiologists, and first year regular chart reviews
- Works with specialty program directors or specialty leads to create/update competencies for each specialty
- Enforces timely completion by members of the Onboarding Committee, of Master Competencies form for each onboarding provider.
- Leads regular chart reviews at monthly intervals following successful completion of provider onboarding period.
REQUIREMENTS:
- AuD or PhD in Audiology required
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical teaching experience required
