OVERVIEW:

Manhattan College, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12-month, full-time position as Director of Athletic Strategic Communications & Digital Media. The Director of Athletic Strategic Communications & Digital Media will be crucial to developing a strategic plan for the athletics department. They will actively pitch stories to local, regional, and national media outlets to increase the school’s brand awareness. They will lead the communications department's day-to-day efforts and liaise with the media, conference, and campus entities. They will monitor Jasper Athletics daily in the news and, through written and visual content, increase followers on social media, website traffic, and game attendance through the publications on Manhattan Athletics platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide media coverage for assigned teams, which includes updating the website after every game and with other pertinent information, as well as compiling and maintaining statistics; Nominating student-athletes for various awards from the conference, NCAA, and other organizations throughout the year; Managing social media accounts for both the Athletics department and the individual teams.

• Deliver a sports communication program that meets Division I standards.

• Collaborate with the college’s sports communication department and the ESPN3 staff.

• Overseeing the management of game-day operations, including all statistics and staffing, and ensuring that the broadcast is high quality for viewership.

• Ensure that photos of student-athletes, coaches, and staff are current and aligned with rosters.

• Highlight moments of achievements.

• Projects such as a new website, visitors’ guide, EOTY recaps and handling interview requests while soliciting possible story ideas to further promote Manhattan College and its teams to different media outlets.

• Develop human interest stories and other stories of interest to showcase our student-athletes and extend the athletic brand.

• Maximize social media connections and website communications.

• Oversee the graphic designs created for teams, stories, and branding.

• Secure game day staff at the scorer’s table/booth and ensure that post-game interviews are coordinated.

• Staff supervision, meetings with college staff, and budget maintenance.

• Traveling with teams to away competitions (all basketball games, whenever possible for other programs and all MAAC championships).

• Miscellaneous office tasks and activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.

• Minimum of 3-5 years of full-time experience at the Division I level.

• Assertive, outgoing, hard-working, and resourceful.

• Ability to design marketing materials; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop preferred.

• Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

• Possess a valid driver’s license.

• Required to travel and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong attention to detail, and keep specific timelines.

• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to problem solve.

• Ability to work effectively with coaches, faculty, administration, alumni, and community.
