Position Overview: The Accounting Director will play a vital role in managing and improving the company's accounting processes and financial reporting framework. As the first [senior] accounting professional on our team, you will have the opportunity to build an accounting department from the ground up, implementing best practices and supporting executive leadership with actionable insights. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the company's long-term success and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Lead the Accounting Function: Maintain and approve upon all accounting processes, policies, and systems to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring they adhere to GAAP and internal policies.
- Internal Controls: Design and implement robust internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain the integrity of financial data.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in budgeting processes and financial forecasting; work closely with management to offer insights into budget performance and key financial metrics.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and work with leadership on capital planning and strategies to optimize cash resources.
- Team Building: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing accounting team as the company grows, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work culture.
- Strategic Initiatives: Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives, including cost-saving opportunities, financing arrangements, and other growth initiatives.
- Audit Preparation: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, managing audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA referred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in and experience in industry in a leadership role. Experience in the logistics, transportation, or rail industry is a plus as is experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in GAAP and familiarity with ERP/accounting software. Advanced Excel skills are required.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor a team, with a hands-on approach when needed.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and present to executive leadership.
- Adaptability: Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities with ease.
