Position Summary: Under the direction of the VP of Finance and Controller, the Director of Accounting plays a pivotal strategic role, overseeing a wide range of accounting and financial reporting functions. This leadership position involves managing a team responsible for complex general ledger accounting activities Primarily responsible for, but not limited to, providing internal accounting support by evaluating, recommending, and implementing best practices and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Essential Position Functions/Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, enhancement, and improvement of the array of financial analytical reports produced by the Finance Department, aligning them with strategic organizational goals.
- Implement a collaborative management style, fostering teamwork and encouraging input from team members to improve processes and procedures.
- Prepares all weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements for HCP, HPN and auditors, ensuring alignment with GAAP.
- Manages journal entries, intercompany and general ledger accounts reconciliations with a strategic perspective.
- Maintain complete control over production of regular and ad hoc deliverables.
- Develop staff competencies in accounting, auditing and financial analysis.
- Collaborate with key Operations staff, providing financial thought leadership around current or contemplated operational initiatives.
- Responsible to review and approve journal entries, balance sheets and other accounting reports; researches and corrects out-of-balance funds and inter-fund adjustments.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls;
- Monitors financial condition by conducting reviews and providing information to external auditors;
- Achieves budget objectives by monitoring expenditures, and analyzing and investigating variances.
- Provide status update of financial condition through the collection, interpretation, and reporting of financial data.
- Responsible to prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, contributing to strategic decision-making.
- Compile and submit internal and external reports and surveys, collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements: Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Strong accounting and analytical skills with proven track record of leading staff to produce timely, accurate, and high-value financial reports.
- Proficient with Windows software, including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Access, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Collaborative leader who can interact productively with peers across the organization as well as the Executive team.
- Demonstrates strong visionary leadership, aligning financial reporting initiatives with broader organizational goals and objectives
- Ability to manage and optimize the quality and quantity of all deliverables.
Training/Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or a related discipline
- CPA is preferred but not required.
- 7-10 years of experience in corporate financial accounting and reporting with record of advancement.
- Preferred background in healthcare, specifically managed care
- Experience with ERP Financial Reporting Applications, preferable Sage Intaact or Peoplesoft
