POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for overseeing all aspects of marketing, promotions, advertising and public/media relations of the Sisters of St. Joseph and their sponsored ministries. This is a full-time, Long Island-based position with flexibility to work remotely.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or business; master's preferred with a minimum of ten years of prior related experience.
2. Experience in communications with a Catholic Church related organization is preferred but not required.
3. Craft and distribute targeted communications and information to both employee and consumer audiences through appropriate mediums.
4. Demonstrated skill and comfort in building relationships with reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media.
5. Successful writing and editing experience (externally focused) with a variety of print and electronic communications media.
6. Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization's mission and goals.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility, sense of humor, and ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically with a wide variety of constituents.
8. Experience planning, writing, editing, and producing newsletters, press releases, reports, briefing memos, marketing collateral, and other print materials.
9. Strong project management skills.
10. Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, volunteers, committees and staff.
11. Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive team player.
12. Excellent and persuasive communicator.
13. Knowledge and experience pursuing state-of-the-art communications technology.
14. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Local travel throughout the Long Island service area.
15. Demonstrable commitment to the highest standard of ethical and professional conduct, problem-solving skills and excellent judgment a must.
16. Ability to work under pressure and challenging deadlines and adaptability and flexibility required.
17. Self-starter with high attention to deadlines and business relationship management.
18. Fluent in Microsoft Office, content management systems, social media platforms, and search engine optimization. Experience with basic HTML, graphic design in Photoshop, Canva, Constant Contact, Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and Form Assembly is a plus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Write contributed feature articles on behalf of various executives with diverse voices and distribute press releases and media alerts.
2. Develop and maintain relationships with the media.
3. Manage relationships with key vendors for graphic design, marketing materials, website, podcast, etc.
4. Work to make the Sisters of St. Joseph communications office the media source for all things pertaining to our ministries and to women religious on Long Island.
5. Develop and conduct e-mail marketing campaigns.
6. Develop new avenues for raising public and media awareness.
7. Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/public relations program and its activities.
8. Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications and public relations, as it pertains to not-for-profit organizations, Catholic women religious congregations and the specific ministries of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
9. Work with CSJ ministries and committees responsible for external relations, marketing, communications and support them in their activities.
10. Oversee the production of all brand-forward printed and electronic materials, including annual reports, flyers, brochures, posters, invitations, programs, and letterhead.
11. Shepherd decision-making and prioritization process for all communications with senior leadership team; develop process for determining communications hierarchy.
13. Serve as brand ambassador; create and maintain a style guide and brand book.
14. Ensure that all events and activities are publicized in a timely, accurate, cohesive, uniform manner.
15. Proactively and regularly communicating to the public, the congregation, and lay and religious staff.
16. Support the CSJ sponsored schools as it pertains to communications involving Sisters of St. Joseph.
17. Provide coordination for all ministry events and programs for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer calendar brochure.
18. Work with leadership team and office of JPIC in crafting Corporate Statements.
19. Work with CSJ Web Manager to identify needed website updates, revisions and messaging as it relates to the CSJ Mission, Ministries and Program.
20. Other duties as consistent with this role.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESS:
1. Assist the Director of Mission Advancement:
- Garnering corporate and business support.
- Creating development of direct mail appeals.
- Assisting in any other development, marketing, public relations or support/office activities not listed above when deemed necessary by the director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, stapler, pens/pencils and phones, etc.
