The Director, Major Gifts and Annual Gifts supports the mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position reports to the Advancement Director and provides financial development leadership to advance the YMCA’s mission. The Director, Major Gifts and Annual Gifts executes Annual Giving program, donor stewardship programs, major giving program, and sponsorships at all levels while positioning the Y as a charity of choice for the investment of philanthropic donations within the community.

Responsibilities:- Ensures philanthropy and fund development, as it relates to the major and annual gift programs, are carried out in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, and vision.
- Under the supervision of Advancement Director, prepares, manages, and builds a Y donor list, executes All donor stewardship programs for the major gift and annual gift donors.
- Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards annual and major gifts & endowment prospects, donors, and foundation/corporate opportunities. Develops an effective, comprehensive major and annual campaign program. Recruits volunteer leadership for overall annual campaign and collaborates with operations leadership to develop campaign strategies to successfully market the annual campaign. Supports plans for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual fund prospects.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Advancement and Regional Directors to create portfolios and community-based strategies for fundraising to support significant growth, retention, and stewardship of major gift, annual gift and sponsorships at all levels in the communities.
- Manages the portfolio of donor prospects in varying stages of the giving cycle. Works with Regional Directors and Director of Operations to identify, recruit, and train volunteers in gift solicitation.
- Under the leadership of the Advancement Director, partners with development and marketing department to execute donor stewardship marketing and communications plans. Establish systems for timely and appropriate acknowledgements of all campaign gifts.
- Assists with development and implementation of financial development plans, policies, and procedures.
- Assures proper planning, including goal setting, strategy identification, benchmarking, and evaluation to support financial development.
- Meets annual fundraising budget and donor targets in assigned areas of responsibility in support of the organization’s overall financial sustainability goals.
- Fosters group work and collaboration and lead efforts to enhance organization-wide culture of philanthropy.
- Conveys a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization and non-profit sector.
- Volunteers with community organizations to enhance the Y philanthropic culture in key service areas.
- Serves as key member of the financial development team.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, non-profit management, financial development, or related degree, or comparable years of experience equivalent to a bachelor’s preferred.
- Accomplished professional with 3-5 years’ experience in financial development at a non-profit organization in the areas of major gifts, donor stewardship and communications.
- Must possess strong organizational and management skills and ability to build relationships effectively with staff and volunteers.
- Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to adapt communication to the appropriate audience.
- Successful track record in meeting/exceeding specific fundraising goals within the expected time.
- Demonstrated ability to be accountable for results, take initiative, as well as to be adaptable, resilient, organized, and detail oriented.
- Demonstrated capacity to build sustainable, philanthropic relationships with volunteers and donors that directly influence increased giving over time.
- Demonstrated collaboration and influencing skills with the ability to foster trust both internally and externally.
- Ability to travel locally to support mission advancement activities.
- Project management experience a plus.
