JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Crisis and Detox Services works daily in partnership with the Chief Clinical Officer to oversee and implement activities in support of its current fully accredited Crisis Stabilization Center (CSC) which provides services for adults with substance abuse and mental health issues who are currently in crisis.
The position will support existing services and will help to develop new ways to address the issues surrounding this population including the Mobile Crisis Response Team , Crisis Hotline and Crisis Stabilization Center . A major focus of this job will be to develop the required structure and program to meet the requirements for the Crisis Stabilization Center and Mobile Crisis Response Team in furtherance of the goal of becoming a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) as an agency . The Crisis Stabilization Center will provide short-term treatment and stabilization services to residents of Lake County experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis as an alternative to avoidable emergency department utilization and/or criminal justice intervention.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide face to face/telehealth crisis response/assessment services to our clients as needed and in support of the programs under their supervision.
- Provide support and resources for individuals in need of Mental Health and Substance Use services. This linkage to area resources with follow-up services following discharge will be coordinated through the Care Coordinator staff under their supervision.
- Role-model a positive and supportive style to influence the clients, as well as for the staff about what services we provide and the company.
- Work closely with the Rapid Access Director and Chief Clinical Officer to ensure that the staff are well supported in providing excellent, compassionate client services and resources, including in response to crisis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Ensure all State program requirements (related to staffing, availability and accessibility of services, care coordination, scope of services, quality and other reporting, organizational authority, governance, and accreditation) are successfully implemented and maintained, in support of the CCBHC grant and other crisis standards.
- Ensures new service lines related to mobile crisis are implemented in alignment with national best practices of the CCBHC , including the effective coordination of community outreach focused on responding to mobile crisis.
- Collaborate with the Director of the Rapid Access Center, and the Chief Clinical Officer to monitor client services’ efficacy and clinical excellence.
- Monitor the client flow while engaged in service areas to ensure patient needs are met in a timely manner.
- Assist in conducting initial evaluations: assess client’s presenting problems including the administration of selected mental status exam items, need for nursing care and/or recommendations for intervention while at the CSC.
- Participate as part of a 24-hour crisis stabilization hub that includes enhanced crisis services and a Mobile Crisis Response Team which provides crisis stabilization services to the identified populations in the community.
- Works closely with law enforcement and community agencies to provide immediate intervention aimed at safely managing those in crisis while reducing the risk of unnecessary emergency room visits and psychiatric hospitalizations.
- Assist in connecting the individual to an appropriate level of care in preparation for discharge.
- Provide client education within area of expertise and limits of credentials.
- Attend meetings as appropriate and connect regularly with supervisor to exchange pertinent information and receive supervision.
- Maintain an elevated level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional stature.
- Assist with answering inquiring phone calls, respond to request for information/referral sources and route calls as appropriate.
- Maintain Crisis Stabilization Center Daily Log.
- Gather clinical information and staff with on-call psychiatrist or designee.
- Provide ability to demonstrate competent use of EMR.
- Notify outpatient therapist of overnight and weekend contacts by their clients and inpatient unit of Emergency Alerts.
- Assist clinicians with screening emergencies and assist with records.
- Serve as a resource to the staff and community regarding available mental health services, referral sources, emergency detention procedures, etc.
- Participate in cross-training with other Crisis Stabilization Center staff.
- Keep up to date on Edgewater Health and the Crisis Stabilization programs and overall service delivery to effectively communicate to all stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education – Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in psychology, social work, or a related field from a four-year college or university preferred.
- Experience -- Minimum of five years’ experience working and/or volunteering within the behavioral health field, substance use, and recovery, criminal justice, or social services field will be considered in place of non-social work (or related field) degree.
