- DIRECTOR FOOD & NUTRITION JOB SUMMARY
- The Director for Food & Nutrition is responsible for providing leadership, direction, administration, and organization of all functions of the Food and Nutrition Services Department and for assuring a clean, safe environment and appropriate medical nutrition therapy.

- Education and/or experience:
- A Registered dietitian; or a certified dietary manager (CDM), or a certified food protection professional (CFPP), or a graduate of a dietetic technician or dietetic assistant training program, correspondence or classroom, approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: or has successfully completed in-person or online coursework that provided ninety (90) or more hours of classroom instruction in food service supervision. If the course has not been completed, this person shall be enrolled in a course and making satisfactory progress for completion within the time limit specified by the course requirement; or, a current or former member of the U.S. military who has graduated from an approved military dietary manager training program. Managers ServSafe Certification or equivalent required within 3 months of employment. Ten years in food service management in a hospital setting preferred, five years of Director level experience strongly desired.
- Bachelors in Restaurant/Hospitality Management, Business, Dietetics/Nutrition or other health-care related field preferred from an accredited college or university. Must be very familiar with Joint Commission and Department of Health healthcare food service requirements. Experience and proven results in improving customer/patient satisfaction a plus.
Knowledge: Expertise in hospital food preparation techniques, infection control, purchasing, budget control, personnel management and scheduling of labor demands. Must be able to interact with a broad range of positions, including those of medical nutrition therapy.
Skills: Must have skills to train others and respond to any directions from Administration. Requires analytical skills, including the ability to organize/assess information and make recommendations for operational, budgeting, auditing and forecasting purposes. Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Must be able to react effectively in crisis management situations and implement emergency procedures.
Abilities: Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with numerous personality types. Able to evaluate the performance of others against criteria stated in their job description. Designs processes and procedures that incorporate service excellence and support customer service. Must have the ability to interpret and implement policies.
