The Director, Employee Benefits leads and directs all of our benefits programs here at Maximus. In this role, you will report to the Sr. Vice President Total Rewards and work collaboratively across our HR Team. This role is responsible for contributing towards and driving a total rewards strategy that supports a culture of high performance to attract, reward, and retain top talent. This role is pivotal to the embodiment of our core values which include; respect, compassion, innovation, accountability, collaboration, and customer focus.
The Director, Employee Benefit provides strategic leadership over all programs leveraging best practices to enhance employee experience, efficiency, and compliance. This role requires a proactive approach to communication, follow-up, and delivering compassionate, timely, accurate responses, particularly within the Benefits department. The ideal candidate will excel in fostering a "employee first", responsive environment to address and fulfill the needs of our staff effectively.
Candidates must reside in the DC Metro area and be willing to work out of the office a few days a week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Delivers compassion and displays empathy when working with employees and managers on benefits related issues.
- Responsible for the development of a team of benefits professionals, with clear and mutually agreed upon career paths, and enabling them to reach milestones and succeed.
- Designs, manages and implements employee benefits, leave and retirement programs, policies, and administrative procedures that are market competitive, cost effective and legally compliant.
- Develops and manages effective working relationships with benefit program vendors and advisors to ensure accountability for delivering effective programs to employee population that yield desired results.
- Collaborates with the Total Rewards and Employee Wellbeing teams to ensure vendors are managed, programs are in sync and ensure a seamless employee experience.
- Ensures effective governance and administration of programs, including the administration of an SCA and ACA compliant VEBA trust.
- Proactively reviews programs and policies to ensure effectiveness, accuracy and compliance on a regular basis.
- Holds vendors accountable for delivering digital technology to support employee benefit programs and deliver increasingly effective and efficient outcomes.
- Leverages analytics to produce reports for Sr. Management to measure effectiveness of programs and vendors on a regular basis.
- Focuses on the communication of the employee value proposition and all related programs and activities that support it, through successful and compelling communications program to drive higher adoption and understanding or all EVP health and wellness programs: including benefits open enrollment, new or revised program launches, new hire orientation, intranet content and distribution of required notices and more.
- Collaborates effectively with key stakeholders in Legal, Finance and Human Resources to ensure benefit programs and processes are compliant, cost effective and operationally efficient.
- Manages the annual regulatory filing process for an on time and accurate delivery for all health & welfare plans, retirement plans and VEBA trust.
- Successfully uses project management methodology to deliver on all key annual projects on time and under budget delivery.
- Manages compliance of all programs through effective and consistent management of third-party administrators of health and wellness as well as retirement programs.
- Provides expert subject matter advice and supports M&A and divestiture activities.
- Manages all benefits vendor relationships (inclusive of insurance companies, third-party administrators, actuaries, brokers, etc.), negotiating services and managing costs.
- Develops, implements and manages well-being strategy that steers employees to healthier behavior, leverages internal and external resources as well as measures and delivers desired outcomes as evidenced by year end analytics.
- Manages paid leave rogram to ensure successful employee experience, delivery of results and effective management of the program.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
- PHR/SPHR, CEBS certification, preferred.
- Prior M&A and divestiture experience required.
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the field of employee benefits management for both an SCA and Non-SCA employee population.
- Comprehensive understanding of the SCA.
- Minimum five (5) years demonstrated track record managing a lean team.
- Demonstrated track record of driving and delivering successful outcomes in employee benefits at a strategic and tactical level.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
- Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently.
- Mastery of basic Human Resources core principles.
- Excellent training development and delivery skills desired.
- Strong analytical skill set and experience leading and executing complex research and project initiatives.
- Proactive in managing employee benefits and the overall employee experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
- Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office software required (Excel, Word, and Power Point).

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
