Description:

The Director is responsible for the development and management of the Center for Vaccine Equity (CVE) and provides leadership, technical expertise, and oversight in the areas of strategic program development, financial management, and collaboration with external partners such as WHO, CDC, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID. The CVE Director also has a special responsibility to provide technical expertise in in support of Respiratory Virus Prevention & Pandemic Preparedness programs within CVE. This position reports to the CEO of the Task Force for Global Health and is located at the Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The Task Force for Global Health, founded 40 years ago to advance health equity, works with partners in more than 150 countries to eliminate diseases, ensure access to vaccines and essential medicines, and strengthen health systems to protect populations. JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The Director is responsible for the overall success of the Center for Vaccine Equity (CVE) program by providing leadership, technical expertise, and oversight in the areas of strategic program development, financial management, and collaboration with external funders and partners including CDC, WHO, Global Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The Director also serves as a technical expert in support of Respiratory Virus Prevention & Pandemic Preparedness (RVPP) programs. These programs include the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI), COVID-19 Vaccination Implementation Program (CoVIP), Strengthening Outbreak Notification and Response (SONAR), and the Global Funders Consortium for Universal Influenza Vaccine Development.

• Develops and implements a strategic plan for the CVE program.
• Develops proposals in collaboration with CVE Program Directors for new projects and works with the CVE Sr. Deputy Director in overseeing grant application development and grants management.
• Provides input and guidance into the staffing process; actively participates in staff recruitment, development, and retention activities.
• Provides leadership and support and supervisory oversight to direct reports.
• Collaborates with the CEO and COO to maintain a strong management and operational foundation for CVE program.
• Ensures ongoing programmatic excellence
• Serves as a member of the Task Force Executive Team.
• Builds collaborative relationships with key funders and stakeholders such as WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, CDC, Global Fund, Gavi, and BMGF.
• Promotes and maintains effective communication within the Task Force and with partner organizations.
• Conducts advocacy and fundraising at the international, regional and national levels to ensure that adequate resources are available to the CVE programs.
• Develops and implements communications and public relations to promote the goals and strategies of CVE.
• Program Management
• Oversees financial management of program budgets through work with the CVE Sr. Deputy.
• Provides technical and policy advice to sponsoring organizations regarding program activities and institutional relationships with international partners.
• Meets regularly with the Task Force CEO, CSPO and Program Directors from other Task Force programs, and keeps the CEO and COO apprised of program progress and critical issues

 

Travel:

• 15-20% travel (both domestic and international) required.

Other Responsibilities:

• Participates in the Task Force meetings and initiatives, including but not limited to annual planning and budgeting, fundraising, and other duties as assigned by the CEO.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• MD or PhD in related field.
• 10 years experience in strategic planning, program development, program management, advocacy and fundraising for international health programs at the senior level.
• Experience working in the field of respiratory virus vaccines and immunization within the international development arena.
• Proven management and organizational skills, including experience leading, building, and successfully managing a team.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated ability to effectively develop a global public health program and facilitate successful implementation.
• Demonstrated skills in innovation.
• Experience working with governments of developing countries.
• Experience working with UN agencies such as WHO and UNICEF; with national health agencies such as CDC; with foundations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; with developmental agencies such as USAID; and with NGOs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
