About the Director, Center for Nursing Research
The Director develops and submits the strategic operating plans for the Center for Nursing Research, that is consistent with the overall mission and goals of Orlando Health, to the Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care Services. The Director will also provide administrative oversight of the Orlando Health clinical nursing research program and ensure that operations comply to Federal and Orlando Health Institutional Review Board standards.
Responsibilities:- Develops and submits (to the Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care Services) strategic operating plans for Nursing Research consistent with the overall mission and goals of Orlando Health.
- Provides administrative oversight of the Orlando Health clinical nursing research program and ensures that operations conform to Federal and Orlando Health Institutional Review Board standards.
- Oversees the development and/ or dissemination of evidence-based practice initiatives and pertinent research findings within defined populations and recommends changes in nursing practice to the nursing team.
- Directs research-based care and mentors nurses to develop a research program within their assigned specialty and patient population, including, but not limited to research utilization, implementation of evidence-based practice and guidelines, Joint Commission Core Measures, and other quality forum measures.
- Expands nursing research opportunities and awareness at Orlando Health through dissemination, mentorship, and presentations at nursing grand rounds.
- Uses advanced skills and clinical knowledge to establish areas of need for clinical research and research utilization at Orlando Health.
- Conducts ongoing program of nursing and collaborative clinical research based upon assessed needs, identified practice issues, opportunities for improvement, evidence-based practice guidelines, clinical quality and safety, patient outcomes, and needs of the organization.
- Disseminates findings from research studies through publication and presentations at local, regional, and national levels.
- Submits and secures internal and/or external funding to support clinical research studies and programs.
- Serves in a leadership and mentorship role to nurses in utilizing, disseminating, and conducting research.
- Serves as a member of the Institutional Review Board as representative for administration and nursing.
- Serves as chairperson of the Nursing Research Committee and participates in reviewing clinical nursing study proposals.
- Establishes alliances and collaborates with affiliated colleges of nursing in the Central Florida region to provide graduate nursing student opportunities for clinical rotations in research.
- Establishes alliance with academic organizations for research-based activities at Orlando Health.
- Acts as a resource to Orlando Health nurses in designing and conducting clinical research studies.
- Develop own nurse scientist skills through appropriate educational and professional activities Adheres to Orlando Health policy, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellence Standards.
- Establishes and maintains an open and positive working relationship with medical staff, managers, and team members.
- Reviews departmental staffing plans to ensure that they are consistent and adequate for attainment of goals and objectives.
- Establishes processes to ensure adequate management development and to provide for capable management succession.
Recommends changes in organization required by development and growth. - Resolves any conflicts arising between operating groups, staff units and other elements under immediate supervision.
- Reviews and approves the appointment, employment, transfers, or termination of all key personnel.
- Prescribes the specific limitations of the authority of team members regarding policies, contractual commitments, expenditures, and personnel actions.
- Establishes and maintains an open communication process throughout the corporation that reaches patients, visitors, families, physicians, and team members such that each feels that they are treated special each time they encounter the hospital.
- Proactively works to achieve the hospital goal of 100% customer satisfaction.
Education
- Bachelor in Nursing Degree required.
- Ph.D. or equivalent Doctorate level in Nursing or related specialty required.
Licensure
- Current license in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse.
Experience
- Five years of closely related experience to include three years of management and leadership experience required.
- Experience with conducting clinical research in nursing required.
