The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Director, Capital Projects in the Facilities division.
Salary Placement:
This twelve (12) month per year position will be on an individual contract. This classified administrator position will be placed on Range 14 of the Administrator Salary Schedule. Step placement is based on experience. Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($11,421.00 / $11,594.00 / $11,766.00 per month) of this 20-step salary range. All administrators are on an employment contract and exempt from overtime and compensatory time accumulation.

Position Description:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President, Facilities Planning, Operations & Construction, the Director is responsible for managing and directing scheduled maintenance, hazardous material abatement, capital construction and special projects; coordinate and supervise the construction process from the conceptual development stage through post occupancy and warranty period, in a timely and cost effective manner; oversee the organization, planning, bidding, scheduling, and implementation of projects; coordinate assignments and manage people, materials and equipment, budgets, schedules, and contracts; and provide for safety of District and College employees and the general public. The Director will be required to travel between sites in the performance of duties as well as periodic travels to other destinations.

Five years of experience as a supervisor/project manager overseeing the construction and maintenance of educational, commercial, and institutional projects. Experience must include managing large work crews, consultants, and/or staff in a construction/maintenance field.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, business administration or related field from an accredited college or university. Four (4) years of supervisory experience and the possession of a General Contractors License may be substituted for the required education.
License/Certification:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy is required.
Physical Characteristics:
Position is a stationary position and requires use of a computer for extended periods of time plus frequent periods of movement from one area to another, which may include traversing to different floors of a building; operating a computer and related equipment; communicating and providing information to others; working with various materials and objects; frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; may be exposed to occasional contact with dissatisfied individuals; and travel from site-to-site. - Manage multiple construction projects concurrently and represent the District's interest in all capital projects.
- Plan, direct, review, and implement the activities, operations, and programs of College and District construction projects.
- Coordinate staff, faculty, administration, project architects, engineers, contractors and vendors related to initial program development, final program development, and overall project planning.
- Assist in the development of initial Project Proposals, Final Project Proposals, project design, DSA submission, bidding and construction of capital projects, scheduled maintenance projects, hazardous materials projects and special projects.
- Coordinate with the Campus' facility planning and maintenance departments on programming, planning, construction documents, bidding, construction, equipment bid package/acquisition/installation and post construction issue management.
- Participate in the development of contract specifications, as well as managing construction contracts and other professional service contracts as directed by the Vice President.
- Act as the primary District contact on capital construction projects and coordinate processes and procedures on all job sites, ensure that project budget expenditures remain, within budget allocation, and provide the project team with the necessary resources to complete the project on schedule.
- Evaluate and recommend various construction and delivery methods in the construction and/or renovation of existing buildings.
- Assist in the development of the planning and scheduling of construction projects; oversees the performance of all contractors; ensure that all work is completed according to construction plans, specifications and schedule; and establish and maintain project files.
- Review engineering and architectural drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness; monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules; track and control construction costs against the project budget; process Requests for Information and Change Orders; maintain meeting notes; participate in claims reviews; and may prepare periodic reports of progress and project status.
- Participate in all construction meetings; provide direction in the implementation of the construction contract; and direct and monitor compliance with building and safety codes and all other regulations.
- Meet regularly with College staff, contractors, architects, and others to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project.
- Assist in the assessment of College scheduled maintenance and hazardous abatement material needs and development of initial scheduled maintenance programs that may be developed into submissions for State funding applications.
- Assist in walking and preparing District space inventory and in inputting data in Fusion.
- Track, analyze, audit and report construction project change orders, RFP's, CCD's, SI's, IB's RFI's, pay requests for all projects assigned.
- Invite and solicit for professional services through the Request for Qualification process.
- Participate and serve on a variety of boards and committees; attend and participate in committees; represent the District at College level meetings; and participate with outside agencies in various activities including DSA, CCFC, and CCCC.
- Prepare a variety of reports, including program activity reports and financial reports for College and District construction activities.
- Implement District policy and procedures.
- Attend the Board of Trustee Meetings when directed.

The College is expecting to conduct initial interviews between the weeks of August 19, 2024 and August 26, 2024 and conduct final interviews between the weeks of August 26, 2024 and September 3, 2024. This is an estimated timeline, and is subject to change.

This is an in-office position, working forty hours per week in our Facilities department on the Valencia campus.
