The Director of Accounting position will work with various fiscal and operational functions within the accounting/finance departments of USC Health System to provide strategic and business leadership in building a shared services finance organization and process transformation. This role will create and operate a consolidated, structured, sustainable & efficient shared services model across the hospitals. Specifically, it will include standardization of accounting/fiscal functions, improving business processes and creating efficiencies through innovative solutions, with a focus on standardization, improved governance, cost containment, and revenue maximization. In addition, The Director of Accounting will work with senior management, the Accounting staff, and other key leaders to ensure that the associated entities are operating effectively, with sound financial analysis, and appropriate financial and operating controls in place. Accountable for overseeing and managing the Accounting team in the preparation, processing, and monitoring of revenue and expense activities. This includes the preparation of financial statements and other specific supporting schedules, analysis, reports and reconciliations with overall responsibility over the maintenance of financial records and procedures to adequately safeguard the assets of the hospital. The Director of Finance position will work with various fiscal and operational functions within the accounting/finance departments of Keck Medicine of USC to provide strategic and business leadership in building a shared services finance organization and process transformation. This role will create and operate a consolidated, structured, sustainable & efficient shared services model across the hospitals. Specifically, it will include standardization of accounting/fiscal functions, improving business processes and creating efficiencies through innovative solutions, with a focus on standardization, improved governance, cost containment, and revenue maximization. Essential Duties: Develops a sustainable Shared Services Finance organization structure and processes that are aligned with the business strategy of the hospitals. Oversee the consolidated fiscal and operational functions of the accounting, payroll and accounts payable departments, including the design of a shared service model structure. Builds a team of finance and accounting experts to support executive leadership on projects and initiatives with strategic importance to the organization. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with the overall strategic direction of the organization. Leads & directs development of strategies for successful use of tools to improve the organization’s ability to access and leverage information available to drive performance and performance improvement. Leads & directs ongoing utilization and optimization of analytics systems, advance the maturity of the organizations use of data, adoption of and pervasive use of analytics for decision making Frame and develop the recognition and reporting models for complex accounting matters Leads & directs the consolidated fiscal close process ensuring the integrity of the financial statements of the hospitals. Partner with other Finance process leaders and their respective teams to design and transition accounting and business processes in the shared services center. Act as a point of escalation for Accounting process owners and ensure timely remediation of issues Review existing processes, structures, and systems with a focus on simplifying and standardizing them. Align the shared services organization structure and processes as well as employee skills and responsibilities to stakeholder needs Develop and report Key Performance Indicators with a focus on providing higher quality service as well as transparency to the internal stakeholders Improve internal control environment to more efficiently monitor transaction risk and financial exposure Able to explain fiscal matters to non-financial Healthcare professionals Serve as a technical resource for the department, guide and influence people, processes, and technology to achieve the overall goals of the hospital Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Business, Economics, or Commerce, with major/emphasis in Accounting 5-10 years Compliance, General Ledger and Financial Reporting experience 3-5 years Experience in healthcare finance/accounting leadership role with demonstrated managerial accomplishments. Proficient in GAAP and healthcare financial accounting/reporting consolidation processes Experience with change management within a culture of growth. Deep understanding of healthcare accounting and business processes, including finance, quantitative analysis, financial analysis, healthcare economics, information systems, and process improvement Strong financial, IT and analytical skills coupled with operational focus Proficiency with Microsoft office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree Accounting or Finance 5 years Progressive Big 4 audit experience in the hospital industry Required Licenses/Certifications: Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only) Certified Public Accountant - CPA The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00.
