17.25 per hour
$18.25 per hour plus 16 hours of PTO once med certification is complete
SUMMARY
To provide habilitative assistance and care to clients living in the following Agency programs: community and supported living arrangements, family support services program, and day/vocational program. The DSP is responsible for the direct daily care, teaching, and supervising of clients to include record keeping.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for the direct supervisor of clients, knowing their status and location at all times.
- To assist in the Program Director and Assistant in the preparation of each individual client’s Individualized Plan of Service or Individual Educational Plan and to implement the goals and staff actions developed.
- To teach, supervise, and assist clients in performing adult daily living activities. For example: Hygiene, personal care, eating, banking, shopping, meal-planning, clothing planning and care, community participation, self-control, etc.
- To assist the Program Director and Assistant in monitoring client progress on goals.
- To protect client rights, and report incidents of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment.
- Ensuring incident reports (DDS and Agency forms), and medication error reports are completed.
- Implement behavioral plans as written; including approved or emergency restraints and procedures when necessary.
- Implement occupational, physical, speech therapist recommendations and programs (i.e., positioning, sensory stimulation, lifts and transfers, etc.).
- Develop and implement recreation and community participation activities with all clients in your care.
- To work cooperatively with Clinical Director, Consultants, families, schools and other agencies in providing and implementing goals.
- Responsible for accurate and timely record keeping of services the Agency provides to clients and specific goals identified in each client's Plan of Service or Individual Education Plan.
- To work cooperatively with supervisory and other staff within the Agency and those from other agencies.
- Attend required staff meetings, in-services, and trainings. Maintain required trainings for the position as required by DDS and Agency.
- Administration of medications, providing routine health care and first aid to clients.
- Ensuring all areas of van and program sites are kept in a clean and organized state. To include but not limited to program equipment, repositioning equipment, individual client’s personal items, office, kitchen, laundry area, etc.
- Transporting clients to and from designated activities and programs.
- Conduct and participate in emergency drills as required by DDS and Agency policy.
- Completion of Medication Certification program and maintain medication certification.
- To ensure accurate recording keeping of the residences petty cash account and individual client cash on hand accounts.
- To perform any other related duties as requested by the Program Director or the Program Manager.
TEAMWORK:
Attend required staff meetings and actively participate in in-services and trainings.
Work cooperatively with supervisory and other staff within the Agency and those from other agencies.
Communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully to all clients, Agency staff, DDS, parents/guardians, community and outside Agency personnel.

Requirements
COMPETENCIES:
Successful completion of Medication Certification Program
Successful completion of PMT, CPR and First Aide training program
Valid CT drivers license with a satisfactory driving record.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years experience working with individuals with developmental and/or behaviors challenges is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret English documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, medical reports and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
