Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Digital Media Services Lead to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will build and execute social media strategy and maintain company websites by generating, editing, and publishing daily content (original text, images, and video) that promotes WIPP’s mission, vision, and values; and highlights accomplishments, progress, and recognizes employees.
Candidates may be requested to provide a sample portfolio of previous products.
Essential Job Duties:
Digital and Social Media Strategy, Content Creation, Analytics:
- Develops and implements, with the Communications & Public Affairs team a digital media strategy that promotes online engagement through company and project external websites and social media.
- Proactively works with teammates to identify web and social media campaign and posting opportunities and curates/develops content to promote upcoming stakeholder events, project accomplishments, and community relations, charitable giving, and education outreach activities.
- Captures and analyzes the appropriate data/metrics to measure online engagement and impact, and helps implement best practices and approaches for increased performance.
Visual Identity and Graphics Support:
- Supports and maintains company and project visual identity standards by developing original graphic designs for online use, presentations, printed displays, brochures and fact sheets, and milestone mementos.
Emergency Response Communications:
- Participates in emergency response public communications program to employees and the public.
Additional Activities:
- Supports special activities and projects, as assigned, such as but not limited to all-hands meetings, video/photo shoots, community relations and education outreach related activities.
Internal Communications:
- Provides support to Manager of Communications & Public Affairs and internal communications lead in developing digital products to support all-workforce communications and events.
Position Expectations:
- Proficient writing and verbal skills a must.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Must be customer oriented with willingness to participate and contribute to collaborative development process.
- Knowledge of web design; web development and SEO; social media account creation, posting, and monitoring.
- Knowledge of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, SproutSocial.
- Ability to gather and analyze data/metrics to measure online engagement and impact demonstrating value add to organization.
- Ability to learn and work with different media types, planning tools, and software.
- Ability to build positive relationships with Communications team members and work peers.
- Proficient user of the Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite programs, WordPress web.
Exempt Grade Level(s) (26-28)

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Web Design, Graphics Design, Digital Media, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field, or
- Associate's degree with four (4) years of experience in web/graphics design, digital media communications, public affairs, media relations, employee communications or related field, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
- Available during non-work hours for on-call and emergency situations.
- Ability to walk on construction and/or mining sites (including some areas of uneven terrain) for extended periods of time.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment in construction and/or mining zone, to include but not limited to, hardhat, safety glasses, reflective vest, and steel-toed shoes.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Proven working experience in web design, social media marketing or as a digital media specialist.
- Thorough understanding of internet trends & changes.
- Strong knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn social platforms
- Knowledge of nuclear, security, environmental, energy services industry, and/or experience working in a matrixed organization or government project environment.
- WIPP or Bechtel experience.

Minimum salary $70,000 per year of a larger salary range -- the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
