SUMMARY: The Dietetic Technician assists in the provision of food service and nutritional programs, under the supervision of a dietitian. May plan and produce meals based on established guidelines, teach principles of food nutrition, or counsel individuals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct nutritional assessments of individuals, including obtaining and evaluating individuals’ dietary histories, to plan nutritional programs.
• Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals, as it pertains to dietary nutrition.
• Observe patient food intake and report and report progress and dietary problems to dietician.
• Monitor patient progress or responses to treatment.
• Enter and complete weekly MDS assessments.
• Monitor and track resident weights on a monthly basis.
• Prepare for and attend weekly NARS meeting.
• Supervise food production or assist dieticians or nutritionists in food service supervision planning.
• Plan menus or diets or guide individuals or families in food selection, preparation, or menu planning, based upon nutritional needs and established guidelines.
• Manage preparation of special meals or diets.
• Provide health and wellness advice to residents, program participants or caregivers
• Determine food and beverage costs and assist in implementing cost control procedures.
• Analyze menus or recipes, standardize recipes, or test new products.
• Speak to residents regarding diet, nutrition, or health to promote healthy eating habits and illness prevention and treatment.
• Provide dietitian with assistance researching food, nutrition, or food service systems.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Registered Dietetic Technician preferred or equivalent experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Long term care experience preferred.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
