Position Summary:
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining heavy and support equipment at transfer stations and material-recovery facilities safely and professionally.
Your Role:
- Troubleshooting heavy equipment.
- Welding
- Maintain and repair various types of heavy equipment, diesel motors, and hydraulic systems.
- Take an active role in improving safety and health in the workplace.
- Participate in all required Company meetings, including weekly safety meetings.
- Maintains reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Adapts to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.
Your Skills:
- Ability to use various vehicle maintenance tools such as hand, electric, pneumatic, jacking, safety stands, and electronic testing equipment.
- Ability to receive, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and understand parts of service manuals.
- Ability to prepare legible and understandable work orders and schedule completion sheets.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Driver's License/CDL B is a plus.
- Must supply own tools
- ASE Certification
- Tow Motor and Air brake certification is a plus
- Demonstrated mechanical skills.
- 2-5 years experience in a transport environment
- Gritty, outgoing, and eager to learn.
- The environment is fast-paced, and the person in this role must be proactive, hardworking, highly organized, and an independent critical thinker.
