Job Summary:
A Diesel Mechanic is skilled in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems. They work on a variety of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, construction machinery, and agricultural equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, including oil changes, fluid checks, and system inspections.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and specialized equipment.
- Repair or replace parts such as engines, transmission systems, brakes, suspension systems, and exhaust components.
- Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure vehicle compliance with safety regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems.
- Test equipment and vehicles to ensure proper functionality after repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure that tools are in good working condition.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Technician.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints.
- Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy components and work in various environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in Diesel Mechanics is a plus.
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License) may be preferred or required, depending on the employer.
Preferred Skills:
- ASE certification or equivalent credentials.
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic software.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Work Environment:
Diesel Mechanics typically work in repair shops, maintenance facilities, or construction sites. This role may involve working outdoors and in various weather conditions. It also requires adherence to safety protocols and the use of protective gear.
