Veterans Community Project (VCP) Overview
Founded in 2016 in Kansas City, MO, VCP is dedicated to supporting every man and woman who took the oath to defend our nation. The greatest barrier to ending Veteran homelessness is the revolving door of unstable housing and the frustrating maze Veterans must navigate in order to get basic support. We believe that to be an effective program, the first step is to connect Veterans and the community. VCP created an innovative homeless housing program and outreach assistance that provides inclusive services to aid Veterans in re-claiming control over their lives.

The Role
The Development & Marketing Manager will support VCP’s national and local fundraising efforts by overseeing development and marketing operations, including data analysis, policy and SOP development, and budget management. This role provides coaching and accountability to local sites for annual fund and community engagement, manages VCP’s CRM system for donor and volunteer engagement, and ensures continuous improvement through regular data analysis. The Manager will also administer the matching gifts program, support grant award processing, and ensure alignment with VCP’s financial goals and compliance standards. This leader will bring a passion for VCP’s mission and a strong focus on optimizing operational efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Local Site Engagement: Provide best practices and coaching, accountability, and benchmarks for local site goal setting, annual fund, and community/volunteer engagement activities.
- Development & Marketing Data Analysis:Conduct regular data analysis, reviewing reports, utilizing automation, extracting insights, and providing recommendations to the national team as well as local sites for continuous improvement in areas such as campaign results & ROI, pipeline management and growth, and CRM system utilization.
- Document Development & Marketing Policies, SOPs, Best Practices: In partnership with the teams, identify needed policies, SOPs, and best practices and coordinate a plan to develop, implement, and maintain them to ensure consistent and effective development & marketing operations.
- Support Budget Management: In support of the Development and Marketing department leads, oversee and manage budgets for campaigns, appeals, and collateral, ensuring alignment with VCP’s financial goals.
- Matching Gifts Program: Manage and promote VCP’s matching gifts program to maximize contributions.
- Grant Award Processing Support: Grant award documentation, deadlines, and compliance tracked, etc. etc. etc.
- Cross Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Donor Support Specialist on gift processing, act as the liaison between Development and Marketing departments.
- Donor and Volunteer CRM Administration and Quality Assurance: Manage the donor database, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, maintenance, and reporting; ensure compliance with best practices in data management. Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure all activities, including data and gift entry, meet VCP’s standards and goals.
Competencies and Areas of Expertise
- Passion for VCP’s Mission: A deep commitment to the mission of VCP and the veterans it serves.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. A minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit development work is essential.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong focus on relationship-building, self-awareness, and effective communication.
- Donor CRM Expertise: Advanced knowledge of nonprofit donor CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge, NEON, Salesforce, or Virtuous.
- Budgeting & Accounting Knowledge: Basic knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles and practices.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced technical skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and social networking platforms. Ability to leverage technology for research and communication.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver compelling messages that align with VCP’s mission. Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential issues with discretion.
- Goal-Oriented: Self-motivated with a strong drive to set, attain, and surpass goals, with minimal supervision.
- Training & Volunteer Management: Ability to work with and train employees and volunteers to meet organizational goals.
