Job Description
Under the supervision of the Executive Director (ED), the Development Manager is responsible for a broad range of fundraising activities for TDD. The Development Manager is directly responsible for cultivating and securing donations from private foundations, government sources, and individual donors. Potential sources include state funds, gifts and endowments, and grants. The Development Manager will work side-by-side with the ED to establish long-range plans, develop donor relations and campaigns, and identify prospects for grants and sponsorships. This position will closely work with the Executive Director (ED).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Development Manager’s core functions will include:
- Donor Relations
- Develop and implement successful strategies for donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation
- Maintain and renew lapsed donor relationships through frequent interaction, individual meetings, and events
- Attend external events and meetings to publicize donor events and develop donor relationships
- Coordinate closely with ED on internal (CRM campaigns) and external development opportunities and activities
- Apply discretion and good judgment in dealing with donors, sponsors as well as confidential information
- Donor Management
- Develop donor tracking and database system
- Oversee tracking and recording of interactions with major donor prospects using TDD’s CRM system
- Oversee data entry and reporting to track all donors, potential donors, donations, guest lists, premiums, invoicing, acknowledgement and thank you letter
- Oversee reconciliation of donations post-events
- Provide reports to the ED on prospect opportunities, contact lists, solicitations, and direct visits
- Grants
- Pursue grants until award is received by working with pertinent xxx at the submission and reporting stages.
- Identify, coordination of grant submission process, grant writing, copy-editing and review of grant proposal, finalization of submission, and management or coordination of multiple staff leading to the successful submission of a grant proposal
- Pre- and post-awards reports
- Managing grant reporting and monitoring requirements including the coordination and successful completion of the steps necessary for interim and final reporting to funders
- Strategic Planning and Implementation
- Work with ED to create a fund development plan and to research potential major donors among foundations, government institutions, corporation, and individuals
- Develop and implement the strategic plan and annual fundraising strategy for annual donor outreach, including setting target goals and concrete plans to reach those goals
- Plan, implement, and administer sophisticated strategies in complex major gift solicitations
- Research, identify, and pursue new sources of donor funding for TDD
- Special Events
- Identify, recruit, and help facilitate external outreach committees for donor events
- Work with ED to identify, contact, and follow up with potential and existing corporate sponsors and donors
- Performs other duties as required by ED
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred
- 5-7 years of fundraising experience within a nonprofit organization and/or professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector
- Ability to pursue grant opportunities, develop proposals and provide all related reports
- Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity
- Knowledge of fundraising and donor management software and applications such as GiveSmart Fundraise; and digital and email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact
- Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, government sources, corporations and foundations, and reports.
- Strong relationship-building skills and outstanding interpersonal skills
- Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with sponsors, donors as well as confidential information
- Ability to interface and engage diverse constituent groups
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $80,000-$100,000.
