What You Can Expect
The Director of Development will oversee the creation of utility-scale battery storage projects throughout California, focusing on the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles Basin. This role involves leading development initiatives for the Company's 9 GW existing projects, greenfield developments, and acquisitions. You will effectively communicate complex development scenarios and address issues from inception to construction, with travel as needed for site selection, development, and commercial activities.
Your daily responsibilities will include managing permitting, site control, interconnection, power marketing, design/engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), financing, and other essential aspects of energy storage project development in California.
- Analyze information flow from internal experts and external consultants
- Coordinate project inputs and updates with internal teams
- Manage project progress, risks, opportunities, and economics
- Make informed decisions and prioritize resources based on schedules and financial impacts
- Stay informed on California's energy storage market, including regulatory and competitive factors
- Track project milestones, manage schedules and budgets, and coordinate across departments
- Support due diligence for acquisitions
- Negotiate lease/purchase agreements for site control
- Coordinate engineering efforts for permits and interconnection
- Collaborate with the engineering team on design and EPC processes
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Management, or a related analytical field
- At least 10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in energy storage or renewable energy development
- Proven success in developing utility-scale energy storage or renewable energy projects in California
- Knowledge of state, county, and city codes and regulations
- Experience in preparing, negotiating, and finalizing commercial agreements
- Ability to manage a large workload and prioritize effectively
- In-depth understanding of the CAISO market, focusing on interconnection and regulatory matters
- Capability to assess development status and inform management decisions
- This role supports a hybrid work policy, allowing remote work until the San Francisco office opens
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 30% of the time, including some overnight trips
- Compliance with ENGIE's COVID vaccination and testing policy
- Adherence to all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Salary Range: $146,300 - $224,135 USD annually
This range reflects the average expected pay for qualified candidates. Actual salary may vary based on geography, experience, education, and other factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
