LA Voice Action, LA Voice’s 501 c(4) affiliate organization, was founded in 2018 with a mission to turn the power of faith voices in Los Angeles County into transformative wins for our communities. In addition to building voter power, the organization has played a key role in the election of progressive leaders.
Position Summary
LA Voice is seeking a Development Director to lead our efforts to secure more than three million dollars annually for the fulfillment of LA Voice’s mission. The Development Director will be responsible for maintaining, growing and diversifying LA Voice’s funding base for social change. The right candidate will be an experienced organizational leader who is prepared to implement tried and true fundraising strategies as well as innovative and nontraditional approaches. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer, serves on our organizational directors team, and works closely with all members of the staff, volunteers and the board of directors. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to bring their fundraising and organizational leadership skills to a growing organization making positive, systemic change in the largest county in the country.
Essential Functions (to include, but not limited to):
Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that meets our annual budget goals and supports our organization’s continued, sustainable growth.
Expand our revenue from individual donors through: 1) our annual event, VoiceRaise, and annual end-of-year peer-to-peer campaign, Together We Give and 2) implementing new strategies and campaigns to grow and cultivate our donor base
With support from our grant writing consultancy, manage and cultivate relationships with current and prospective institutional funders. Work with grant writing consultancy to prepare proposals, reports, email updates, collateral material, and other documents that are compelling and responsive to funder interests.
Maintain and grow our organizational “culture of philanthropy”; ensuring that all staff, board members, and grassroots leaders feel a sense of ownership and contribute to our financial success.
Lead strategy to increase income from dues paid by our congregational members
Develop strategy to increase revenue to our affiliated 501c(4), LA Voice Action, including growing out an individual membership structure
Manage funder and donor data, ensuring our fundraising efforts are well tracked to maximize success.
Work with our communications team on robust fundraising materials including monthly newsletters and our annual report and end-of-year-letter.
Plan and implement donor retention and acknowledgement efforts
As team grows, manage additional development staff
Serve as a senior leader on our organizational directors team, collaboratively ensuring the organization’s success
Qualifications:
Required:
5 years professional experience in development, with significant experience in both institutional and individual donor fundraising
Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious fundraising goals
Strong collaboration and group leadership skills
Strong writing skills; can produce excellent quality writing on deadline
Ability to project manage and manage one’s own prioritization and work stream.
Able and willing to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work
Cultural competence to support and promote a multi-racial, interfaith environment
Experience with donor databases, preferably Salesforce
Preferred:
Experience fundraising in the Los Angeles area; knowledge of and relationships in local fundraising landscape
Staff management experience
Experience with generating revenue through institutional and/or individual membership structures
English fluency required; second language a plus, including Spanish, Tagalog, or Korean
Experience with community organizing
Lived experience with the issues addressed by our work: homelessness/housing insecurity, immigration, and/or incarceration
A bachelor’s degree combined with some form of ongoing education--a Master’s Degree, writing courses, fundraising certificate, e.g.
Compensation
Salary in a range between $90,000-$115,000. LA Voice’s compensation structure was developed from best practices in equitable and transparent compensation, and includes a generous benefits package including matching 401(k); 15 days paid vacation increasing to 20 after three years of service and 25 after five years (plus holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year); and medical, dental, and vision insurance. This is a hybrid position that requires two days a week in-person in our office in Downtown LA.
