Upton, NY
About the Job
The Magnet Division (MD) designs, builds, and tests superconducting magnets for use in particle accelerators world-wide. The Magnet Division also builds magnets for various other applications (e.g., Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) and provides magnetic measurement services lab-wide.
The Superconducting Magnet Division has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Design Engineer to assist with the design of superconducting magnets and tooling. Under the technical direction of senior engineers, you will play a key role in designing magnets and magnet components as well as associated assembly and testing tooling and equipment. The assignments you will work on will usually be on a project basis, which will require a high degree of initiative and judgement to plan, coordinate, and perform your design efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop component and equipment designs using 3D modeling and design software
- Support design and safety reviews
- Prepare and document fabrication drawings
- Support fabrication, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and other technical staff
