Overview of Role:Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer will be an important member of the Engineering team within Product Development. This role will design components that enable the future of performance fit and participate in the full product development process from initial concept generation to production. This role will be responsible for the development of assigned components and subsystems and will typically work with daily guidance from more senior Design Engineers. This role will produce concepts, build and test prototypes, design parts in Onshape, refine and iterate parts through feedback from testing, and create engineering documentation necessary for production. This role will also contribute to the development of production tooling and ramp-up to mass production.
Core Responsibilities:- Reflect and role model BOA’s vision, values and Leadership Model and demonstrate passion for our mission across the Product Development team and rest of the organization
- With the support of the Design Engineering Manager and more senior Design Engineers, develop new mechanical concepts to solve the engineering challenges needed to bring a product to market
- Use engineering calculations and analysis throughout the design process and discuss the technical details of your designs with other engineers
- Create 3D CAD models of designs in Onshape
- Create prototypes and quickly iterate through fast-fail testing
- Help develop test methods, and refine assigned subsystems and parts based on test results
- Create engineering documentation including 2D drawings, Manufacturing Instructions, DFMEAs and Tolerance Stack-Ups
- Coordinate with external vendors on the development of production tooling and production ramp-up
- Proactively support the continuous improvement of BOA’s engineering processes and tools
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline
- 2+ years of engineering experience, and your experience should include significant contribution to one or more product development projects
- Proficiency in Onshape (preferred) or another 3D CAD system (SolidWorks, Creo/Pro/E, CATIA, NX, SolidEdge, Inventor)
- Exposure to manufacturing methods used in BOA’s products (plastic injection molding, sheet metal, wire forming, powdered metal, small part assembly, textile manufacturing)
- Experience applying engineering analysis methods using tools like Excel, Minitab, Matlab (or other languages), and FEA
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse groups of people across the globe
- Advanced experience in Onshape, particularly in top-down modelling strategies and advanced surfacing
- Hands-on experience with machine shop equipment and 3D printers, and comfort making simple prototype parts (we have a machinist on staff for the complicated stuff)
- Experience working with overseas contract manufacturers
- Budgeted salary range: $80,000 - $90,000
- We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees with similar experience in the same or similar role
- This role is also eligible for a 10% annual bonus
