NOTE : The maximum starting salary for Deputy Sheriff I - Lateral Entry will be $61,252.
NOTE: A $10,000 signing bonus will be awarded to successful candidates.
• $1,000 will be payable upon hire.
• $4,000 will be payable upon the successful completion of one (1) year of service as an Anne Arundel Deputy Sheriff.
• $5,000 will be payable upon the successful completion of two (2) years of service as an Anne Arundel County Deputy Sheriff.
• The Entry Deputy Sheriff is required to work twelve (12) full months after receipt of the final bonus payment. If an Entry Deputy Sheriff leaves within those twelve (12) months, they will have to repay a prorated portion of the sign on bonus.
This is a recruitment for Deputy Sheriff I, Lateral Entry. Applicants must be sworn Law Enforcement Officers who are currently or previously certified in the State of Maryland (MPCTC Certified).
The position is a full-time, permanent and safety sensitive. It is within the Sheriff's Office.
Candidates must be currently Certified Maryland Police Officers by the Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) and have at least one (1) year of law enforcement experience (Must be separated in good standing from a full service law enforcement agency for two (2) years or less by the closing date of the posting).
Candidates must be previously certified as Police Officers by Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) who can meet re-certification requirements under Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) guidelines for lateral law enforcement officer and have at least one (1) year of law enforcement experience (Must be separated in good standing from a full service law enforcement agency for two (2) years or less by the closing date of the posting).
This is responsible law enforcement regulatory work that includes but is not limited to serving arrest warrants, civil and criminal documents, maintaining courtroom decorum, safety and security, transporting and maintaining security and custody of prisoners, and extraditing individuals as required by court orders.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Employees in this class are expected to perform their assigned duties with minimum supervision at the conclusion of the probationary period. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level Deputy Sheriff II. Work assignments are carried out in accordance with State law, Arundel County Sheriff's Office policies and procedures, functional precedents, established practices, and defined rules.
Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulations require applicants to meet and maintain the commission's selection standards for certification, to complete law enforcement academy training within twelve months of provisional certification or the commission's applicable training standards for re-certification of formerly certified law enforcement officers, and to meet and maintain applicable firearms standards set forth by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.
The work of this class may be performed in all types of weather conditions and environments. The work involves standing, sitting, walking and driving for prolonged periods of time. Work hazards include but are not limited to serving civil process papers on citizens who are hostile and occasionally combative; guarding prisoners and responding to prisoner escape from courthouse detainment or during extradition; and, infrequently directing traffic or enforcing traffic violations when encountered during regular duty assignments. Work assignments may include shift work, evenings, weekends and holidays. Employees may be required to work overtime.
