JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Public Works Director, this position is responsible for development and implementation of Public Works projects and the stewardship of City infrastructure working towards a sustainable future. This position supervises engineering division staff. The application of civil engineering principles and practices in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates related to the design, construction and maintenance of these projects provides the core basis for this work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Licensed engineer in the State of Washington or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months of hire
- Graduation from college with a degree in civil engineering or closely related field
- A minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing licensed engineer, 4 years of which is in a management role
- 2 years of experience working in a municipal engineering environment
- Valid Washington State Driver's license
Preferred
- Master of Science Degree in a related field
- 10 years of experience practicing as a licensed engineer, 6 of which is in a management role and municipal engineering position or as a consultant for governmental agencies
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires being in the office the majority of the time with occasional work outdoors during all types of weather; office work will require working at a desk for extended periods of time behind a computer and attending meetings; occasional in-person night meetings will be required; outdoor work may include field investigations, inspection, and observation of construction; occasional remote work may be allowed per City policy and approval of the supervisor; vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected); and a full range of motor skills.
