Deputy Op-Ed Page Editor - Boston Globe Media

Job Description:
Boston Globe Opinion is looking for a dynamic editor to produce timely, thought-provoking columns and op-eds. The editor will collaborate with writers and Opinion editors to generate fresh ideas, solicit outside contributions, and edit submissions. Strong journalistic judgment is essential for selecting freelance pieces for publication and refining staff columnists' work. Creativity, curiosity, and an openness to diverse viewpoints are crucial, as is the ability to present arguments across various platforms.

• Solicit and edit opinion pieces from freelancers on current issues.
• Review unsolicited submissions and provide feedback.
• Collaborate with staff columnists.
• Assist the op-ed editor in producing the daily opinion section.
• Create social media copy for op-eds and columns.
• Edit newsletters authored by columnists.

• Minimum five years of experience in journalism.
• Experience in editing freelancers and commissioning essays preferred.
• Strong idea generation skills.
• Familiarity with various digital platforms, including data and multimedia.
• Openness to diverse perspectives.
• Excellent collaborative skills.

The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, easily accessible by public transport. Candidates should be local or willing to relocate.
