Job Summary: The Deputy General Manager will assist the General Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, supervising and coordinating the activities of multiple departments, implementing policies, and ensuring organizational goals are met. As a science-based company, this role requires a strong background in chemistry and biology. Given Research and Development is a critical portion of this position’s responsibility, the Deputy/Assistant GM will play a vital role in shaping the future of our products and services, driving innovation, and ensuring that our R&D initiatives align with our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Director of R&D to lead and inspire a team of R&D Scientists, fostering an environment of creativity and innovation within ever-changing regulatory landscapes.
- Learn and help execute comprehensive research strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and market needs.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Innovation) to ensure seamless integration of R&D efforts with product commercialization strategies.
- Implement processes for continuous improvement in R&D methodologies, tools, and practices.
- Train with General Manager in other laboratories and operations areas – microbiology, quality control, manufacturing, shipping and receiving, customer service, purchasing, engineering, accounting.
- Ensure effective communication coming out of all laboratories to customer-facing groups or ownership.
- Streamline communication amongst internal laboratory and operations groups.
- Eventually independently manage daily operations of aforementioned lab and operations areas, reporting in regularly on progress and initiatives to General Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Biology, Biotechnology).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a scientific management leadership role.
- Deep understanding of and passion for the cosmetic and personal care industry.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
- Ability to develop and execute long-term strategic plans.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
