Position Summary | The Department of Surgeryat the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, is seeking aprofessional individual with strategic vision, excellent organizational ability,and strong interpersonal/communication skills to partner with the DepartmentChair in the operations and strategic planning of thedepartment. This position is responsible for the oversight ofall administrative functions, including clinical practice management, revenuegeneration, hiring and recruitment, and human resources. Key components to thisposition are: Strategic Leadership- Partner with the Chair and Division Chiefs in the development ofpriorities, goals, and change initiatives; successfully implement short andlong-term strategic plans for the Department; represent the department withskill and professionalism in discussions and negotiations with partners and keystakeholders, including the medical group, hospital, and SOM/HSC; develop rational,data-based and realistic financial models of proposed initiatives to ensuresustainable investment of resources. Position Summary: Operational Leadership- Oversees clinical, business and academicoperations including implementation efforts; works collaboratively with facultyand administrative leadership to achieve operational results includingadherence to policies and procedures, productivity and quality goals; provideoversight and monitor key performance indicators, scorecards, and financialreports at a departmental and individual level to ensure that the Departmentremains on course to meet or exceed operational goals; work withmanagerial staff to insure adequate feedback and data is available to the Chairand divisional leadership before any potential corrective actions isundertaken; develop and oversee the internal/external communications for thedepartment utilizing intranet, internet web services, social media, newslettersand other forms of communications; monitor staff recruitment, physicianrecruitment, retention efforts, compensation and equity and performancemanagement. Cultural Leadership- Implements policies, practices and standardsthat model and reinforce the UNM/SOM missions, vision and values; ability toremain optimistic and to lead with the spirit of continuous pursuit ofexcellence in a climate of continual change; monitor faculty and staffengagement and make recommendations to improve work culture as necessary. As a leader in surgeryin this region we depend on the contributions of a large support staff, whoseexpertise and dedication serve to facilitate the departments administrative,clinical, education and research missions. In the partnership with UniversityHospital, UNM Medical Group, Sandoval Regional Medical Center, NM VeteransMedical Center and the community, our programs and services offerstate-of-the-art surgical care. |

Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
