About the Job
The Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) has one paid internship opportunity with the Investigation Branch. The intern will be required to support Welfare Fraud Investigation including checking various computer programs, developing statistical analysis, conducting chart analysis, completing low-level case assignments, and preparing written reports of investigation findings.
The in-person student internship position is expected to be one year in length, anticipating working 20 to 40 hours per week with flexible hours around the student's school schedule.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, receives supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and performs other related duties as required.
The intern will be exposed to the law enforcement functions of the Investigations Branch and learn the various methods and tools used to conduct regulatory and criminal investigations.
The intern will also be exposed to law enforcement procedures, tools to conduct skip tracing investigations, investigate report writing, criminal statistical analysis, welfare fraud laws and applications, and law enforcement procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average : 3.0GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application .
Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's degree program during the entire duration of the internship. R ecent college graduates are eligible to intern for up to one year (twelve months) from their graduation date. Graduation date is not to exceed a twelve-month maximum during the duration of the internship.
Areas of Study : Accounting, Finance, or similar, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Psychology, Sociology or other Behavioral Sciences, Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, and Organizational Studies.
Minimum Qualifications (in addition to the above):
- Knowledge of research methods and techniques
- Investigative techniques and procedures
- The principles of identification, preservation, and presentation of evidence, the legal rights of citizens, the rules of evidence, and of court procedures
- Commerical and property laws and credit transactions; legal procedures
- The methods of financial record keeping
- Ability to use all Microsoft programs, Ability to be functional on various computer programs, and conduct data entry.
