Job Description/Scope of Work:
Sanford Federal, Inc. is seeking an experienced and Board-Certified Dental Hygienist to join our healthcare team at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive dental hygiene services and support in a dynamic healthcare environment. As a Dental Hygienist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the oral health of our patients while adhering to relevant regulations, certifications, and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Perform dental hygiene procedures including oral examinations, teeth cleanings, and preventive treatments to maintain optimal oral health.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and provide personalized recommendations for oral care.
- Collaborate with dentists and other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide as needed for pain management during procedures.
- Document patient information accurately and maintain up-to-date and organized patient records.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations regarding occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, ensuring proper infection control procedures are followed.
- Comply with CDC guidelines and maintain all required certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from an American Heart Association (AHA) course.
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in dental hygiene techniques and technologies by participating in continuing education courses.
- Work collaboratively with the dental team to ensure efficient patient flow and exceptional patient care.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of specialized experience as a Dental Hygienist.
- Board Certification by the American Dental Association (ADA).
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from an AHA course.
- Proof of required tests, including Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assays (IGRA), Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, Acellular Pertussis, and annual Influenza vaccination.
- Completion of generic self-study blood-borne pathogen training.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series and hepatitis B surface antigen test results.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and infection control procedures.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to educate patients about oral health.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with excellent record-keeping abilities.
- Strong commitment to patient care and safety.
- Ability to work within a team environment and collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
