- Sterilizing instruments: Dental assistants are responsible for the sterilization of dental instruments to maintain hygiene and prevent cross-contamination1.
- Ensuring necessary equipment is ready: They must check that all equipment is functioning correctly and ready for the dentist to use during patient exams1.
- Assisting dentist during procedures: Dental assistants provide chairside assistance, handing instruments to the dentist and helping with suction and other tasks during dental procedures1.
- Taking and processing X-rays: They are trained to take dental X-rays and ensure they are processed correctly for the dentist’s review1.
- Processing lab work: Dental assistants may also handle tasks such as making impressions for crowns or other dental work that is sent to a lab1.
- Advising patients on recommended oral hygiene: They educate patients on proper oral care techniques and the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene1.
- Updating and maintaining dental records: Keeping accurate and up-to-date dental records is crucial for tracking patient care and treatment history1.
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED: This is the minimum educational requirement.
- Post-schooling: Additional education in dental assisting is preferred.
Experience:
- Dental Assistant Experience: At least one year of experience in a dental assistant role is required.
- Pediatric Experience: Experience working with children is necessary.
Skills:

Licenses/Certifications:
