Dental Assistant - Oral Surgery

MUST:
The Oral Surgery Assistant will have experience:
1 plus year of Dental experience
X-Ray Certified Dental Assistant in Maryland
Have CPR/BLS certificate
DUTIES:
Oral and Maxillofacial Assistant will be responsible, but not limited to the following:
Maintain patient privacy.
Assist faculty and residents, chair-side in the practice of four-hand dentistry/Surgical assisting.
Set-up of oral surgery equipment for extractions, dental implants, biopsy's and other oral & maxillofacial surgeries in a safe manner. (after competencies are completed for each area of operation)
Maintain dental operatories and equipment in good condition; sterilize instruments; take digital panorex x-rays and ensure proper documents are available for I.V. sedation cases as well as regular clinic appointments.
Provide suture removal and dressing changes to patients. Assist in organizing and controlling the use of clinic supplies independent of direct supervision. (after competencies are completed for each area of operation)
Obtain patient vitals signs, monitor and report any adverse reactions to medications and or procedures.
Process pathology and cytology specimens in accordance to laboratory protocol.
Participate in clinical in-service training programs, learn new methods through in-service training participation (i.e. required to maintain current certification in CPR)
Provide those remediable tasks permitted by the Virginia Board of Dentistry at the direction of and under the supervision of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Adhere to all regulatory requirements such as, HIPAA, etc. Maintain daily records and patient charts as per clinic protocol
Knowledge of sterilization equipment and supplies (Autoclave, Cidex-OPA and Sterile Processing)
Knowledge and use of computer software systems such as Electronic Medical Records (Allscripts) Cidexus, Portal, Formfast, and Centricity.
Provide clear oral communication and demonstration skills to help facilitate patient education.
Ability to prepare, sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment. Knowledge of dental hygiene principles and practices.
Ability to instruct patient in preventative dental techniques as well as pre & post operative instructions
