Orthodontic dental assistants will assist residents and orthodontists in the care and treatment of the pediatric orthodontic patient. Will ensure exam room is maintained in a clean organized state. Greets patients and preps patient for examination by the orthodontist. Have the ability to identify problems or changes within the patient 's mouth and report them to the orthodontist. Ability to take appropriate x -rays, molds and trim models as required. Orthodontic assistant will assist the orthodontists prepare and assist during the orthodontists during procedures , ensuring necessary instruments and supplies are in place prior to the start of the exam. Maintain clinical lab in clean organize state. Work collaboratively with orthodontic biller as needed. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran.

1. Provides assistance to dental residents and dentists in the treatment of patients to ensure timely patient flow and efficiency of the patient care required.
1.1 Receives and seats incoming patients in a pleasant, courteous and professional manner 00% of thetime as observed by Dentists and Manager.1.2 Exposes digital or traditional x-rays as directed by Dentists; develops and mounts traditional x-rays accurately; scans and assigns digital x-rays to electronic patient chart.
1 .3 Properly assists dentists in all chair-side procedures, prioritizing patient/clinical needs.
1.4 Accurately completes and/or reviews medical history; triages; discusses post?op instructions and oral hygiene instructions, takes vital signs and other miscellaneous patient care needs required as directed by Dentists.
1.5 Assists dentists in any clinical dental setting as needs arise including general practice, pediatrics, oral surgery, and one day surgery. Participates in the orientation and guidance of the patient flow, patientmanagement and customer service to the dental hygienist students, dental assistant students and the Residents. This includes the operational requirements in the public health and hospital environments.
1.6 Participates in the learning processes of the residency program including but not limited to: coaching dental assisting students on rotation through the facility, facilitating rotating dental hygiene students' patient care experiences, and participating in the Residents' learning experiences.
2. Maintains care of all instruments and equipment to ensure proper function and usage for clinical efficiency.
2 .1 Properly oils all handpieces daily to ensure proper functioning.
2 .2 Maintains autoclave per manufacturer's instructions biweekly to ensure proper functioning.
2 .3 Properly prepares, sterilizes, and distributes instruments as needed.
2 .4 Weekly stocks to emergency room cart properly with an adequate level of supplies required for Residents to treat patients in the E.R.
2 .5 Properly stocks the One Day cart weekly or as required with an adequate level of supplies and instruments for Dentists to treat patients in the O.R.
2 .6 Reports all broken or missing equipment promptly to the Dental Manager or designee to ensure timely repairs or replacement.
2 .7 Prepares pretreatment instrument trays daily or as needed for specific procedures for clinical efficiency.
2 .8 Weekly changes solutions and cleans rollers in traditional x-ray processor; logs dates performed.
2 .9 Maintains JCAHO and hospital standards regarding environment of care and patient safety standards including but not limited to: spore testing autoclave logs, defibrillator test logs, and refrigerator temperature logs.
3. Maintains and cares for treatment rooms and sterilization area to ensure a clean, safe, environment for patientcare and coworkers.
3 .1 Stocks treatment rooms with supplies and instruments daily, 100% of the time as observed by
doctors/manager.
3 .2 Straightens and cleans treatment rooms properly between patients according to department policy 100% of the time as observed by doctors/manager.
3 .3 Maintains sterilization area/laboratory area to OSHA and JCAHO standards.
3 .4 Prepares supplies, maintains inventory levels with demand ordering not to exceed 4times throughout the year.
3 .5 As needed performs cross trained duties to ensure the efficient operation of the department including but not limited to: telephone answering to department standards, pulling charts, and general front desk assistance.
EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):
Graduation from high school or GED. Completion of Dental Assistant Program Preferred.
EXPERIENCE (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance):
Entry Level position.
LICENSURE
Must obtain DANB and Infection Control within one year. ORTHODONTIC CERTIFICATION may be required depending upon area of assignment.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Ability to work with pediatric and special needs patients.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Prolong standing may be required at times, ability to work with model trimming tools
