Position Summary
This dental assistant position supports the Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities. Provide four-handed chairside assistance to dental students, residents and faculty. Instruct dental students and dental assistant students in techniques and utilization of four-handed dentistry with special needs patients in multiple dental disciplines and infection control. Perform tests; assist with preparing dental castings, dispensing medications and instructions, and performing minor dental and surgical procedures; provide oral surgical assistance to dental residents, students and faculty. Assist in the administration of IV sedation and patient monitoring during surgical procedures. Ensure safe use, disposal, and storage of chemicals or hazardous materials. Maintain patient files and charts, lab work. Serve as clinic receptionist and clinic cashier.
Qualifications
Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
Certification as a Dental Assistant.
Required Experience:
1+ years Graduate of a Dental Assistant Training Program and experience working with special needs patients OR 1-2 years of related experience including experience working with patients under IV sedation/general anesthesia.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with patients with disabilities and/or surgical experience strongly preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of chairside assisting for oral surgical procedures. Knowledge of oral surgical instrumentation. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Korean, Chinese).
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $31.203. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
